Best and worst of the B*Witched, S Club 3, Atomic Kitten, Liberty X 90s revival

B*witched performed a string of their biggest hits.

B*witched performed a string of their biggest hits.

Feeling nostalgic? Liberty X, S Club, Atomic Kitten and B*Witched are in town for their 90s pop party, so we donned our play suits, cat ears and practiced our Irish jig ready for the princesses of pop from yesteryear to make a comeback at Auckland's ASB Theatre.

If you feel like taking a walk down the memory lane of your teenage years, while singing along to some of the biggest pop hits of the late 1990s, this is the gig for you. Here is some of the good, and bad:

LIBERTY X

What was initially a five-piece ensemble is now a trio of the remaining members Michelle Heaton, Kelli Young and Jessica Taylor.

S Club 7's Jo O'Meara: 'What I wish I'd known'
B*Witched, Atomic Kitten, and S Club 3 headed for NZ

"Can you believe it? We're in New Zealand!," Heaton squealed.

They performed just two songs - 'Just a Little' and a cover of 'Aint Nobody'. And that was it.

The ladies proved they've still got it (and then some) but... you came all this way. And seemed super excited to be here. And we've waited 15 years for this. Why not give us "just a little" more than two songs before you leave again?

S CLUB... 2

They reckon there ain't no party like one of their own, but food poisoning forced S Club 3 (last remaining members Joanne O'Meara, Bradley McIntosh and Tina Barrett) to withdraw from tonight's gig at the 11th hour and there was no getting down for any of them tonight.

Instead, the DJ smashed out an album's worth of S Club bangers in between Liberty X and Atomic Kitten's sets, before McIntosh and Barrett appeared on stage to apologise for being unable to perform.

O'Meara is "really poorly", Barrett insisted, "and she loves all of you". It's not yet known whether O'Meara will be well enough to take the stage at Saturday night's show.

McIntosh and Barrett made an appearance in the middle of a DJ set of S Club hits.

FYI: There will be no refunds for those of you who purchased tickets purely to see these three.

ATOMIC KITTEN

Liz McClarnon's fear of flying saw her replaced for the trip downunder, with "honorary kitten" Michelle Heaton (of Liberty X) taking the mic in her place.

Joined by Heaton, Natasha Hamilton and Kerry Katona belted out their biggest hits including 'Right Now', 'Eternal Flame', 'The Tide is High' and 'Ladies Night', before closing with their biggest single; 'Whole Again'.

"I was in the band then! So it's my number one too!" Katona declared - (Katona left the band due to pregnancy in 2001 and was replaced by Jenny Frost).

"It's everyone's number one," Hamilton replied.

There seemed an awkward tension between Katona and Hamilton, and at times Katona's voice came off a little pitchy, like bad karaoke.

During a brief pause between songs, Heaton gushed about how - on the advice of a taxi driver - the group had visited Waiheke Island on Thursday and it was "just the best time ever".

B*WITCHED

Twin sisters Edele (complete with a cast on an apparent broken wrist) and Keavy Lynch (who kicked off her sparkly Chuck Taylor's to cope with the humidity) with bandmate Sinead O'Carroll instantly cast their spell over the crowd.

The Irish lasses performed a string of their biggest hits; busting onto the stage to open with 'C'est la vie' - including 'that' jig - followed by 'Rollercoaster', 'Jesse Hold On', 'To You I Belong', 'Champagne or Guiness', 'Love and Money' as well as an ABBA medley for good measure.

And despite it being 18 years, they looked and sounded like no time had passed at all.

The entire crowd was up and out of their seats, some dancing in the aisles, hands in the air, right through to the encore performance of 'Blame it on the Weatherman'.

In a sign of how times have changed in the 20 years since they formed, the trio paused to take a selfie with the crowd, and just about every former girl groupie danced with phone in hand, posting the best bits to Snapchat.
