Live AFL: Saturday night footy

We're back to five AFL games on a Saturday. It's now time for the night-time double-header. Geelong host Adelaide at Simonds Stadium in the match of the round while the Western Bulldogs face St Kilda at Etihad Stadium.

Marcus Bontempelli assesses his options as Tom Hickey looks on.

AFL analysis

The top four has taken on an almost completely new complexion after today's five games with Sydney (2nd), Geelong (3rd) and West Coast (4th) replacing Adelaide (5th), the Western Bulldogs (6th) and GWS (7th).

The Giants have the chance to re-enter the top four tomorrow when they play Port Adelaide and could reach as high as second spot. But the Crows and Dogs might slip to as low as sixth and seventh respectively by the end of the round.

Of course the Bulldogs were the biggest story of the day as they suffered an upset loss to St Kilda at Etihad Stadium.

The Dogs had their reasons, though, as they ended the game with one fit man on the bench. Dale Morris (back), Jack Redpath (knee) and Mitch Wallis, who looks to have suffered a horrific broken leg, failed to see out the game.

As a result, Luke Beveridge's side failed to trouble the scorers in the final term as the Saints ran away 15-point winners to keep their faint finals hopes alive.

St Kilda's designs on an unlikely September campaign rest heavily on their next match against North Melbourne. If they win that, they will be just one game outside the top eight. If they lose it, they'll most likely slip three games adrift with four rounds left and can kiss their finals hopes goodbye.

The Cats booted seven goals to two after half-time to blow away the Crows and end their eight-match winning streak.

Geelong restricted Adelaide to their lowest score in over two years (Round 12, 2014).

Sydney and West Coast were given almighty frights by Carlton and Melbourne respectively and both hung on for unconvincing six-point wins at home.

The Eagles really shouldn't have won their match - they had 29 fewer inside 50s than the Demons!

Meanwhile, Gold Coast beat Fremantle by four goals at Metricon Stadium.

That's his third bag of 4+ goals in six weeks. His comeback story keeps getting better.
