Delicious Lao cuisine from papaya grill in Sydney's Marrickville
Stumbled across a delightfully little restaurant in Marrickville today when searching for lunch. I was attracted to it by a hand scribbled whiteboard on the side walk announcing Lao Cuisine. Having never tried food from Laos before, curiosity and that hand scribbled sign got the better of me and we dived on in.
We weren't disappointed. The food was wonderfully fresh, well flavoured and nicely balanced. There was no gimmiks here, no Instagram frenzy, no queue for the sake of a queue, just good honest food served by people who take pride in their culture and their cuisine.
Must trys : The Lao Style beef jerky. They do the savoury /sweet version here, served warm with a dipping sauce. It's the perfect dish to chew on throughout your meal and as it cooled down it got better!
Glass noodle salad with seafood. Super fresh, perfectly seasoned. This salad is everything you need.
Deep Fried Icecream . Before you ring up flashbacks of thick batter soaked balls of frigid icecream, imagine a block of ice cream covered in a light pastry case and drenched in coconut syrup. The crispness and crack of spoon breaking through delicate pastry to reveal smooth velvety icecream will haunt my dreams tonight.
