Signing off! Christina Ricci looks elegant as she makes time for fans waiting in the cold outside late night TV studio in NYC

It may have been freezing outside, but Christina Ricci still made time for her fans as she left The Late Show With Stephen Colbert in New York City on Wednesday.

Dressed down in a pair of light blue jeans, checkered slip-on sneakers and a grey J.Crew parka, the petite actress signed autographs for waiting fans as she left the studio.

The 36-year-old was there to promote her show, Z: The Beginning of Everything, which is currently streaming on Amazon.

In the series, Christina plays Zelda Fitzgerald, the real-life wife of The Great Gatsby author F. Scott Fitzgerald.

The series follows their turbulent relationship, as they both dealt with Zelda's mental health issues and life in the limelight.

'All I kind of knew about her was that common misconception: she’s that crazy alcoholic woman who ruined F. Scott Fitzgerald’s life,' the actress told Women's Wear Daily in a new interview. 'And for me, I just don’t enjoy when people are dismissed in that way... It was so far from the truth, and the truth is so much more interesting than that anyways.'

The former Addams Family actress often shares behind the scenes photos from the set with fans on her Instagram.

One of the photos shows her getting her wig put on as she sits in the makeup department.

But Christina admits the reaction to the series - which is told entirely from Zelda's point of view - has come under criticism from die-hard F. Scott Fitzgerald fans.

Wearing many hats: The actress shows off one of the many stunning costumes she gets to wear on the show

'People are very precious about him, which is one of the reasons why her story hasn’t necessarily been told, because in order to tell it you have to paint him as a little more human than I think people like,' she explained. 'But that is a problem, and I’ve seen it too sometimes when people write about the show - you can tell that what they’re actually reacting to is, they’re Scott Fitzgerald fans.'

Still, the outspoken actress maintains Zelda isn't a villain.

'I think we’re catching up to her way of thinking, so we can understand her behavior and her character more now than generations past,' she added. 'The way she thinks and her mind-set seems so much more like a modern woman than back then. She expected everything to work out, she expected to be able to do whatever she wanted to do.'
