Brisbane traffic: Scissor lift in flame after hitting Fortitude Valley powerlines

  • 14 reading now

A fire caused by a scissor lift hitting high-voltage powerlines has created traffic chaos in Fortitude Valley.

Emergency services were asking drivers to continue to avoid the area on Friday afternoon as there were still delays through Fortitude Valley including the northbound lanes of the Story Bridge.

Barry Parade from St Pauls Terrace down to Wickham Street also remained closed.

One fire crew went to the scene at Barry Parade about 3pm, but had to wait for Energex to turn power off.

A Queensland Fire and Emergency Services spokeswoman said a tyre had caught on fire, and was allowed to burn out by itself.
