Man dies after being hit by truck in Woolloomooloo

A elderly man has died after he was hit by a large truck in Sydney's inner city on Friday afternoon.

Emergency services were called to the intersection of William and Bourke streets, Woolloomooloo, just before 1pm, following reports a man believed to be in his 80s had been struck by a truck.

NSW Ambulance and Paramedics confirmed the man suffered serious head injuries and went into cardiac arrest at the scene.

He was taken in a critical condition to St Vincent's Hospital, where he died.

The driver of the truck was taken to Kings Cross police station for questioning.

Two of three eastbound lanes remain closed at William and Bourke streets. 

NSW Transport is advising motorists to expect delays.
