Woman shares home birth story on Twitter, Facebook

A woman has shared her labour and birth via social media – tweeted TMI details, gritty Facebook photos and all.

Ruth Iorio, a Los Angeles writer, told Huffington Post that she wanted to show her “unique experience, whether attractive or not, and just to be honest about it”. And over the course of her 12-hour labour, she and her husband showed the messy, painful and ultimately rewarding reality of a home birth.

The birth wasn’t without its difficulties; after baby Nye’s birth, Iorio was taken to hospital for complications arising from her placenta not detaching properly. She remained there for two days under obvservation after receiving a blood transfusion.

Now, however, Iorio is at home enjoying life with her husband and new son.
