After a twenty minute appointment, they got back in their vehicle and traveled the four minute drive back to their $100 million gilded penthouse in Trump Tower.

Barron and Melania have chosen to remain in New York after Donald Trump moved to the White House on January 20. They won't move to the White House until after the 10-year-old finishes the school year in June, the president said. The mother and son plan to fly to Florida this weekend though to meet up with Trump at the 'Winter White House' of Mar-a-Lago.

Trump's daughter Ivanka and her husband Jared Kushner have already relocated to Washington D.C. to be near him.

Melania has decided to stay put in the interests of her only son, with sources telling the New York Post the campaign had been 'difficult' for Barron.

The 46-year-old former model, who is sometimes spotted picking up her son from school, told People magazine in the spring that with Trump on the road, she has spent a lot of time with Barron because he 'needs somebody as a parent'.

Meanwhile Donald Trump has had a very busy first week as president after he followed through with many of his campaign promises, including his high controversial crackdown on immigration - the so-called 'Muslim ban.'

The ban has sparked furious protests across America - including in New York where hundreds gathered in Tompkins Park, in the Lower East Side, on Monday for the third day of demonstrations.

New York medical students also staged a 'die-in', where demonstrators lay down to protest against his order to repeal the Affordable Care Act, also known as Obamacare.

First Lady Melania Trump is back in New York City with her son Barron, as he is still finishing up his school year in the Big Apple.

The First Lady opted for classic glamour with a cream colored wool wrap coat to keep the winter chill at bay and a nude colored dress that she paired with nude colored Gianvito Rossi pumps.

These pumps have been a celebrity go to for quite some time as we have spotted them on the likes of Gwyneth Paltrow, Gigi Hadid, Kate Hudson, Miranda Kerr and more.

The Rally Against Hate was also protest against the order to stop all travelers from nine, Muslim-majority countries, from entering America. Even people with U.S. green cards were initially refused entry.

Monday's protest was the latest in a string of demonstrations in New York. On Saturday, about 10,000 people marched across the city, while protesters gathered outside JFK Airport over the weekend.

However, Melania and Barron managed avoid the downtown drama during their short trip from their luxury home in Midtown to the Upper East Side.

The 10-year-old has seven months to go until the school year ends in June.

Famous alumni include actress Sarah Michelle Geller and author Herman Melville.

While his wife and son will no doubt be coming to visit him in Washington, their New York digs certainly aren't too shabby.

Trump's three-story penthouse apartment, decked in 24-karat gold and marble, is nicer than the White House, according to his ex-wife Ivana Trump, with whom he has three adult children Donald Jr, Ivanka, and Eric Trump.

With Trump expected to make frequent trips home, Jim Reese, a former Delta Force member, told the Post: '[Trump Tower] is going to become the White House of New York.'

While Melania remains in Trump Tower, she is preparing for her move to the White House.

The First Lady made her first step in assembling her White House staff by hiring New York event planner Stephanie Winston Wolkoff. Wolkoff has roots in the fashion industry. She has worked as a special events planner for Vogue, as well as a fashion director for Lincoln Center.

She made her name staging the Met Gala, and helped to organize President Trump's inaugural balls and dinners, reported the Washington Post.

The 46-year-old is a longtime friend of the First Lady's, and her hiring shows that Trump will attempt to bring her circle of New York friends into Washington and into politics.

Wolkoff is Melania's first hire since her husband was elected in in November. She has yet to hire a chief of staff, social secretary, or communications director.
