Just as children love splashing around at the swimming pool, baby monkeys also enjoy time playing in the water.

But while humans usually take a while to build up the courage to take on the diving board, a fearless monkey has been captured braving the heights, moments after learning to swim.

The incredible footage will be aired on the BBC One series 'Spy in the Wild' tonight in an episode focused on mischief.

SPY IN THE WILD

At first sight they look exactly like the real thing – cute, cuddly and in some cases terrifying creatures of the wild.

It's only when you take a closer look that you realise the stars of BBC1's brilliant new wildlife series Spy In The Wild are nothing of the sort.

The monkey, orangutan, crocodile, ostrich and 30 other 'creatures' that take centre stage in this stunning series are extremely lifelike robots, with miniature cameras fitted where their eyes should be, designed to record previously unseen behaviour in their real-life counterparts.

In a preview for tonight's episode, a tiny baby macaque can we seen being taught to swim in a small pool of water.

But after seeing one of its friends leaping from a nearby post, the monkey climbs out of the water and heads for the post.

The monkey seems to lose faith for a few seconds, as it pauses at the top of the post, which sways precariously in the breeze.

Another bigger monkey then climbs up the post and eggs the baby monkey on, before pushing it into the soaring dive.

The scene will be shown on tonight's episode of Spy in the Wild, which is themed around mischief.

A description for tonight's episode on the BBC website, says: 'When nobody is around wild animals often get up to mischief amongst themselves and some are downright criminal.

'In this hidden world of animal crime and retribution and antics the Spy Creatures boldly go where no human would dare.'

As well as the diving monkeys, tonight's episode will feature a range of other mischievous creatures.

In one scene, a tropic bird has to duck and dive to survive an aerial attack by aggressive frigate birds as they attempt to steal his fish.

The Spy Creatures also capture cheating animals including outlandish chimpanzees having extra-marital affairs and a meerkat colony who don’t take too kindly towards a philandering female who is promptly evicted creating war in the group.

Spy in the Wild is the BBC's latest documentary, in which cameras are concealed within lifelike robots, tracking how animals interact with them in the wild.

The next episode will air tonight on BBC One at 8pm GMT.
