Within days they recorded disturbing footage of carer Bina Begum, 49, lifting the great-grandmother by her head and throwing her back into her chair. Begum avoided a jail sentence after admitting ill treating and neglect.

Six men were given sentences between 10 years and 20 years - and totalling more than 80 years - by a judge who heard details of how two young girls were sexually abused in Rotherham between 1999 and 2001. One victim, in a statement read to the court, said: 'There's evil and truly evil people in the world. I feel my child was the product of pure evil.' Brothers Basharat Dad (bottom centre), 32, Nasar Dad (bottom left), 36, and Tayab Dad (top left), 34, were jailed for sex offences along with Matloob Hussain (top centre), 41, Mohammed Sadiq (top right), 40, and Amjad Ali (bottom right). The sentencing marks the end of a series of three major trials after the Jay Report on child sexual exploitation in Rotherham described how more than 1,400 children had been groomed, trafficked and raped in the South Yorkshire town over a 16-year period. It has led to 18 people being jailed for sentences totalling more than 280 years. There were emotional and chaotic scenes at Sheffield Crown Court after two of the latest defendants shouted 'Allahu Akbar' as they were led from the dock, although it is unclear which ones.

Missouri teenagers Daisy Coleman and her best friend Paige Parkhurst (with Daisy top right) were sexually assaulted in 2012. Police searching for missing RAF gunner Corrie McKeague (left) have released a new CCTV image of a potential witness spotted in the area he was last seen. Mr McKeague, 23, from Fife, Scotland, vanished while on a night out with friends on September 24 in Bury St Edmunds in Suffolk. The last sighting shows him walking from a shop doorway and into a horseshoe-shaped area in Brentgovel Street, with no sign of him emerging. Suffolk Police officers combing through CCTV footage have released stills of three people who have yet to be traced. They are re-issuing some images along with a new image of one person that has now been obtained (right).

A 12-year-old girl was raped by a family friend who then killed her by throwing her alive down a 330 ft mineshaft, police in Russia said. Suspect Evgeny Bukharin, 40, offered the girl a ride on his snowmobile when she was waiting at a bus stop on a visit to her adult sister, it is alleged. But he took Viktoria Reymer, from the Russian city of Novokuznetsk, to his own house, where he sexually attacked her, according to investigators.

Labour MPs lampooned the shadow home secretary for 'pulling a sickie' after she failed to take part in the key division to authorise Article 50 - despite Jeremy Corbyn imposing a three-line whip. Some backbenchers were circulating the ironic hashtag #PrayForDiane saying they were 'very worried' about her after she claimed to have a migraine. The shadow home secretary was in Westminster all day and gave an animated speech to MPs at just before 4pm but failed to take part in a series of crucial votes in the Commons from 7pm.

Stephen, 27, right, had never known who his father was but had heard rumours that his close friend and next door neighbour, David, left, could be his biological father. They were given the good news on The Jeremy Kyle Show after a DNA test confirmed the truth, inset. Stephen admitted that the possibility of David being his biological father had 'messed with head' after his mother told him it was rubbish. She had, however, had a dalliance with David when they were younger and fallen pregnant with Stephen - but kept David's son from him.

An explosive report claims President Donald Trump fumed at Australian Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull, inset, about a deal for America to take asylum seekers from Australian detention centers during the leaders' first official phone call on Saturday, then cut the call short by half its allotted time. The report, in The Washington Post, is a huge embarrassment for Turnbull, who has insisted in recent days the asylum seeker deal is solid and relations with Washington are fine. The agreement was reached between Turnbull's government and the Obama administration, and would have seen South American refugees accepted into Australia. The Post report, citing anonymous Trump Administration officials, said the president (pictured left) gave Turnbull (right) a major dressing-down during a pre-arranged call that was one of several the US leader made to international leaders on Sunday, including Russian President Vladimir Putin. 'This was the worst call by far,' Trump reportedly told Turnbull.

The former first couple - looking understandably relaxed - took off from the island of Tortola on Thursday, as seen in photos obtained exclusively by Dailymail.com.

The flat in Muswell Hill, north London, was where Nilsen murdered a handful of male escorts before cooking their body parts and eating them. The two-bedroom home seems unremarkable, but it was the subject of a massive police investigation after reports of a strange smell coming from the drains. Officers raided the house and discovered that the odour was from rotting human remains in the house of horrors, also finding body parts in the wardrobes.

A grainy 47 second clip has turned up on YouTube, showing Banksy working in a Bristol underpass on a stencil called Lights, Camera, Vandalism. Wearing a hoodie and jeans and with his back to the camera, the artist uses spray cans, a stencil and some cardboard to create the artwork (pictured). The film was apparently taken by Banksy or a friend back in 2010 as part of a report run by The Sunday Times. Robin Gunningham, a former public schoolboy, was first named as Banksy by The Mail on Sunday in 2008.

Max the dog had the wind in his hair, and ears, when he went for walkies in the Lake District today. The 'canine ambassador to Keswick' was captured braving the strong winds by his owner Kerry Irving. The pair were taking a final stroll before 'storm Doris' hits the UK. Ms Irving's photos and videos have catapulted nine-year-old Max to social media stardom and he is now regarded as something of an icon in the Lake District. When posting the video on Facebook Ms Irving commented, 'Flapometers at seismic today!'

A thug who was caught on camera hurling a concrete slab through an ambulance window which caused £3,500 worth of damage has been spared jail. Josh Thacker, 24, approached the empty ambulance as it was parked outside a property in Highfield, Leicester, on January 18. Mobile phone footage shows Thacker picking up a concrete block and throwing it at the front of the ambulance - forcing it off the road for six days. He picked up the slab and launched it at the windscreen a second time before walking back to the side of the East Midlands Ambulance Service (EMAS) vehicle. Thacker was also caught on camera punching and kicking the wing mirror of the ambulance until it is completely bent backwards.

Crown Prince Jigme Namgyel Wangchuck of Bhutan will be celebrating his first birthday on February 5. In honor of the occasion the palace released a stunning portrait of the baby son of King Jigme Khesar Namgyel Wangchuck and Queen Jetsun Pema. The little Crown Prince celebrates his birthday the same month as his dad, who will be turning 37 on February 21.

The amazing footage was taken at the Kruger National Park and shows a pride of lions stalking the herd of buffalo as they stand by the edge of the Sabie river near the tourist camp restaurant. One lioness suddenly makes her move and charges at the herd who turn and run towards the water to make their escape. When the herd start making their way across the river, one of the lionesses chases down a straggler and brings it down.

Footage has emerged of the adorable moment Prince Harry, 32, tries - and fails - to prank a schoolboy with the 'wrong shoulder' trick on a visit to a Nottingham school yesterday. The royal was sitting to the boy's right and tapped his left shoulder to make him turn the wrong way, but the savvy youngster knew exactly what was going on. However, good sport Harry pretended to be surprised when the youngster repeated the prank on him seconds later.

An emaciated lioness was found cowering in a squalid cage and lying on exposed cables (left) at Al-Murur public park, in Mosul, Iraq, after the area was liberated from ISIS. Another heartbreaking image shows a bear looking mournfully through the rusting bars of its enclosure (right). Separate pictures show the filthy, ramshackle cages where animals were neglected during the terrorists' reign.

A hapless burglar who became wedged in a bathroom window as he tried to climb into a pensioner's house has been jailed. Sean Crawshaw, 47, was found stuck in the tiny upstairs window (pictured, left) of a property in Radcliffe, Greater Manchester. Crawshaw, who was rescued by the fire brigade from the window (right), pleaded guilty to burglary with intent to steal and was jailed for two years and four months. Sergeant Richard Garland, from Greater Manchester Police, said 'poetic justice' had been served.

The whale was in poor condition, and had become stranded in shallow waters off the coast of Western Norway, leading to wardens putting the animal down (pictured main). Researchers from the University of Bergen analysed the whale's stomach, and found huge amounts of plastic waste (pictured inset). Cuvier's beaked whales are up to 22ft long and usually feed on squid and deep-sea fish. The mammals do not normally range in Norwegian waters.

The dizzying footage shows James Kingston, from Southampton, exploring a Californian construction site and ascending a blue crane before he is stopped by a police officer. While many people would be scared to death to be up so high without any safety equipment, Kingston is happy to turn around to face down to the ground, hold on with one hand and even, when at the top, hold on with no hands.
