This $10 extension for Photos gives users full access to all of DxO's Optics Modules, which can correct optical distortion and aberrations as well as improving dynamic range and removing haze from landscapes. Hasselblad has introduced a seasonal offer that sees the price of its flagship H5D-50c and H5D-50c Wi-Fi cameras reduced by over 40% for what it describes as a ‘limited time only’. The offer means the camera is available for €12,500/£11,750 for the standard model, and €12,900/$14,500/£12,100 for the Wi-Fi model. The Hasselblad H5D 50c Wi-Fi is usually €$28,500/£18,350. Chinese lens manufacturer Kipon has announced that next year it will make available a reducing adapter designed to allow medium format lenses to fit on full frame cameras. The adapter will have a magnification factor of 0.7x which it says will widen both the effective focal length of the lens in use and its effective aperture. Read more
Canon has added to its EOS 5D range with the launch of two 50MP cameras, the 5DS and the 5DS R. Both cameras are high-resolution full frame models, primarily aimed at stills photographers. The only difference between the models is that the 'S' has an optical low-pass filter, while the 'S R' has a self-cancelling filter (the same relationship as Nikon's D800 and D800E models shared). Sony is bringing its Alpha SLT-A68 DSLR camera - announced in Europe back on November 5th - to the US and Canada this spring. The a68 uses the company's Translucent Mirror Technology, which allows for 8 fps continuous shooting with full-time autofocus. It sports a 24MP CMOS sensor, 79-point AF system (borrowed from the a77 II), a tilting LCD display, and Full HD video recording using the XAVC S codec. Read more

Sigma has created an all-new protective filter, the Sigma Water Repellent (WR) Ceramic Protector, using Clear Glass Ceramic with water and oil repellent coating. This is the first filter to use such a material in its construction. Casio's TR series of Exilim compacts has propelled the Japanese company to record profitability this year after the cameras caught ahold of the massive Chinese selfie market. According to a report on Nikkei Asian Review, Casio is on track to make a $403 million profit this year, a good part of which has come from sales of its unusually shaped EX-TR compact cameras designed to appeal to female selfie shooters. Panasonic has released firmware updates for five Lumix G lenses, adding support for the maker's Dual IS technology. The feature was introduced in the Lumix DMC-GX8 camera; with this update, a total of eleven lenses are compatible with that model’s Dual IS system, including the Leica DG Macro-Elmarit 24mm F2.8 Macro and collapsible Lumix G Vario 12-32mm F3.5-5.6. The Canon PowerShot G5 X is a higher-end version of last year's G7 X and inherits its predecessor's 24-100mm lens and 20.2MP 1"-type BSI CMOS sensor and puts it into an SLR-style body with a built-in EVF, fully articulating LCD, three control dials and a hot shoe. Japanese glass manufacturer Hoya says it has created a new coating that prevents dust, water and fingerprints from sticking to the surface of its filters. The company claims the coating acts like a 'force field' around its new Fusion series of filters, protecting them from stains as well as scratches. The idea behind the coating is to make the filters easy to clean and to reduce the chance of damage while in use or storage. Read more

Italian accessory manufacturer Manfrotto has released a new app for its Digital Director iPad cradle that allows users to wirelessly control Manfrotto Lykos and Litepanels Astra LED lights. The 2.0 app is capable of handling up to 13 panels via a Bluetooth connection, so brightness levels can be controlled from the camera position. Read more
Leica has announced a firmware update for its SL (Typ 601) full-frame mirrorless camera. Firmware version 1.2 improves low ISO image quality, improvements to the EVF and changes to the L-Log gamma mode. There are other changes related to M and R lenses and Wi-Fi connectivity. More details

Alien Skin has launched Exposure X, its non-destructive photo editor for Mac OS X and Windows. Exposure X is the successor to Exposure 7, and functions as both a plug-in for Adobe Lightroom and Photoshop as well as a standalone editor. Action camera manufacturer GoPro has officially named its forthcoming camera drone and announced that it will be available in 2016. Footage from the GoPro Karma is demonstrated in a video on the GoPro website, which is also the same movie the company showed when it first teased the drone. Read more

According to a report from the Nikkei Asian Review, Panasonic has decided to resume image sensor development in order to speed up the drive for 8K video. Back in October, Sony announced its intention to buy out Toshiba's sensor business, and today they've sealed the deal. Sony is spending ¥19 billion ($154 million) on the acquisition, which includes technology and a factory in Oita, Japan. Toshiba's 1,100 workers will be offered positions at Sony Semiconductor after the merger closes by the end of the first quarter 2016. Read more
As a followup to its Cardboard headset and Cardboard app, Google has launched a new VR content creation tool for Android called Cardboard Camera.
Italian accessories manufacturer Manfrotto has announced it is to introduce a new range of LED light panels under the Lykos brand name. The Lykos Daylight and Lykos BiColor panels are small enough to hold in one hand but can also be mounted on a lighting stand, and can be powered by an L-type video-camera battery or via the included AC adapter. Update: The Yi Action Camera is now being sold in the US. Chinese company Xiaomi, perhaps best known for its smartphones, has introduced a new GoPro competitor called the Yi Action Camera. This new action camera will only be sold inside of China for the equivalent of approximately $64 USD (399 CNY); the company doesn't, as of now, have plans to sell it elsewhere. This still poses a problem for GoPro, however, which has recently been looking to expand into the Chinese market. Read more

Digital medium format brand Phase One has bought the whole of the Mamiya Digital Imaging Company and has taken over Mamiya's Saku factory for its Japanese HQ. The Danish company has had a long-standing relationship with the Japanese camera and lens manufacturer, and since 2009 has owned 45% of the company's shares. Read more

Nikon has released firmware updates for its D750 and D4S DSLRs, providing both with a new external recording control option for use with external recorders using Atomos Open Protocol. At the end of a list of bug fixes, Nikon also mentions that the D750's firmware version 1.10 introduces 'optimal vibration reduction' with vibration reduction lenses. Read more

Ricoh has announced it is to offer an infrared-sensitive version of its 645Z medium format camera, the 645Z IR. Sadly, the new model is not intended for public consumption, but will be aimed at museums and scientific establishments who will have to sign a usage agreement before they can make a purchase.
