Married At First Sight 2017: Jonathan's 'ex' turns out to be double trouble

  • Staff writer

To be honest, who doesn't like a bit of drama at a wedding.

Nine's Married at First Sight has already exceeded itself on day one of its fourth season in its remit to be the most ridiculous reality show out there.

And now step up Emma, whose eyeliner-framed psycho stare is likely to be one of the best memes to come out of Australian television this year.

And now it has emerged that Emma, who has been accused of sabotage attempts on the wedding/first date between Jonathan and Cheryl, is not some deranged ex-girlfriend but instead the twin sister of Jonathan's ex.

"When someone told me [after seeing the show] that one of my exes was at my wedding, I was sitting there going, 'Hold on a second. There were no exes at my wedding'," Jonathan told The Fix. "I don't know where they're getting this from.

"Emma is practically like a sister to me because she is the sister of one of my exes. They're twins. They're not identical. I think you have to have dated a twin to understand. People say they look similar, but they don't look anything alike."

So Emma doesn't technically have a vested interest in the marital status of Jonathan, although her wacky performance at the wedding does suggest otherwise.

As she declared in a slightly tipsy manner to the camera crew at the wedding, "I don't think she is the person for John because the person for John is already out there."

A bit of aggro ensues when Cheryl's wedding party spot the opposition declaring her disapproval, which results in Emma seeking a quick getaway away from the glare of the bridesmaids and cameras' spotlight.

"Everyone's had a few drinks," as Cheryl correctly points out.

"I wasn't really surprised by the reaction," said Jonathan. "I was like 'God, Emma please, you could have held your s--- together!'

"I've known her for years, and [the wedding drama] isn't going to change anything.

"She just laughed and was like, 'Did I make an idiot of myself?' And I was like, 'Yeah.' She's actually a lovely girl. She's laughing about it now."
