American Girl is an American line of 18-inch (46 cm) dolls released in 1986 by Pleasant Company. The dolls portray eight- to eleven-year-old girls of a variety of ethnicities. They are sold with accompanying books told from the viewpoint of the girls. Originally the stories focused on various periods of American history, but were expanded in 1995 to include characters and stories from contemporary life. Aside from the original American girl dolls, the buyer also has the option to purchase dolls that look like them. The options for the line of Truly Me dolls range from eye color, eye shape, skin color, hair texture, and hair length. A variety of related clothing and accessories is also available. .
Pleasant Company was founded in 1986 by Pleasant Rowland, and its products were originally purchasable by mail order only. In 1998, Pleasant Company became a subsidiary of Mattel. The company has been awarded the Oppenheim Toy Portfolio Award eight times.
The Historical Characters line of 18-inch dolls were initially the main focus of Pleasant Company. This product line aims to teach aspects of American history through a six-book series from the perspective of a girl living in that time period. Although the books are written for an eight plus target audience, they endeavor to cover significant topics such as child labor, child abuse, poverty, racism, slavery, animal abuse and war in manners appropriate for the understanding and sensibilities of their young audience.

"My Own American Girl" is the season three premiere and 47th episode overall of the American sitcom Scrubs. It originally aired on October 2, 2003 on NBC.
After being punched in the nose by Dr. Cox in the previous episode, Dr. Kelso is now detectable from a distance as he makes a whistling sound when he breathes, and so everyone, particularly Ted, takes advantage by slacking off when he's not around. However, as no one will admit to seeing the incident, Dr. Kelso can't fire Dr. Cox and therefore takes his anger out on him by making him spend his weekend giving prisoners their yearly physicals, forcing him to spend his free time away from his new son, Jack.
Resentful that helping Elliot out has cost him time with his son, Dr. Cox refuses to help J.D. with a particularly troublesome patient. Unfortunately for J.D., the only ones willing to help him are Turk, Carla, and Elliot — although she is so deep in a personal rut that she would be more a hindrance than a help.
Bonnie Leigh McKee (born January 20, 1984) is an American singer and songwriter. Her debut album, Trouble, was released in September 2004 under Reprise Records. After being dropped by Reprise several years after its release, McKee had taken a musical hiatus before establishing a name for herself as a songwriter. McKee has co-written eight singles that have reached #1 in the United States or the United Kingdom, which have sold more than 30 million copies worldwide combined. After sometime of focusing on songwriting, McKee released "American Girl" in July 2013.
McKee is particularly known for collaborating with pop singer Katy Perry, and the duo have co-written the hits "California Gurls," "Teenage Dream," "Last Friday Night (T.G.I.F.)," "Part of Me," "Wide Awake," and "Roar" together. McKee also co-wrote "Dynamite" by Taio Cruz, which became the second best-selling song by a British artist in the digital era.
Bonnie Leigh McKee was born in Vacaville, California and raised in Seattle, Washington. She studied classical piano and became a member of the Seattle Girls Choir Prime Voci at age 12, and toured with the choir throughout North America and Europe. She recorded two albums with the choir, titled Jackson Berkey Meets The Seattle Girls' Choir and Cantate 2000. She briefly attended The Bush School, where she recorded a demo as part of a class project, before being kicked out soon after. At age 12, McKee's mother gave a demo CD featuring her singing Bette Midler and Fiona Apple songs to a friend of hers, the co-founder of the Sub Pop label, Jonathon Poneman, who was intrigued by her songwriting talents. According to McKee, this was the moment when she realized she had to be "more than just a singer," but a songwriter as well.

www.youtube.com/qtv The legendary Clash singer and guitarist Joe Strummer famously said, "the future is unwritten". Well, I'd love to hear what Strummer would have to say about Michael Muhammad Knight -- the author of "The Taqwacores", a book that, in many ways, wrote the future of the North American Muslim punk music scene. Knight's book takes us into a vibrant house of aspiring punk musicians living in Buffalo, New York. Like most young punks, the characters in this book live for sex, drugs and rock n' roll. But in this house they also pray to Mecca (denoted by a hole smashed in a wall). The characters in "The Taqwacores" all negotiate their identities - religious, political, cultural and sexual - through the rebellion of punk....from mohawked Sufis to burqa-wearing riot girls ...
