Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp admits he was lucky to escape punishment after screaming in the face of fourth official

Jurgen Klopp has admitted he was fortunate to avoid censure after he screeched in the face of Neil Swarbrick during Liverpool's 1-1 draw with Chelsea.

Liverpool's manager was captured on camera roaring at Swarbrick after Diego Costa had a penalty saved by Simon Mignolet late in the game, an incident which has led to Manchester United's Jose Mourinho claiming there are 'special rules' applied to him by match officials.

Mourinho was warned during United's 0-0 draw with Hull – who Liverpool face on Saturday – that he faced being sent to the stands, something that prompted the Portuguese to reference how Klopp's incident with Swarbrick had been dealt with 24 hours earlier.

The Reds boss told Swarbrick 'nobody can beat us' after Simon Mignolet saved a penalty

Klopp revealed on Tuesday that he told Swarbrick 'You can never beat us!' and that the match official replied 'I like your passion!' but, at his regular weekly press conference, the German accepted the situation could have ended with him in trouble.

'I think it depends on the fourth official,' said Klopp. 'We all know what we can do. When I saw the picture (of him shouting at fourth official) afterwards it didn't look too nice but it was not as bad as it looked so that is why I said what happened.

'Maybe I was lucky with what the fourth official said because I've never heard something like this before.

'There are different ways to handle the situation. It is quite an emotional game and to switch off emotions is not that simple. I had no idea why he (Mourinho) spoke about me.

'We struggle – not only myself and Jose, but Arsene Wenger and a lot of other people struggle. We are all different.

'Sometimes we get a fine, sometimes not. It's not what we want to do it nor is it a tactic. It worse with me when I was younger. I have already improved.'

Liverpool failed to add to their squad during the transfer window with the one significant deal on deadline day involving them being Mamadou Sakho's loan move to Crystal Palace until the end of the campaign.

The structure of the deal for Sakho, who had been ostracised from Liverpool's first team squad, saw Palace take over his lucrative contract and pay a £2million loan fee but they do not have an option to sign him permanently.

Klopp, though, is not thinking about reintegrating him just yet.

'If I should give advice to Mama I would do it personally, not in front of a television,' said Klopp. 'Who knows what happens in half a year? We felt already what changed in one month and there is another five to go.

'He should concentrate on the job at Palace and we should concentrate on the job here.

'At the moment he is on loan and he still has a contract at Liverpool but that is not the thing we talk or think about at this moment. It is a solution for the moment and we can wait for new impressions.'
