Crime surge in Fitzroy Crossing sees more than 100 offences committed

More than 30 people have been apprehended in connection with more than 100 offences following a recent crime surge in one of WA's most remote towns.

The recent crime wave in Fitzroy Crossing, 2500km north east of Perth, has led to extra officers, including detectives, being brought in to deal with the upsurge.

In the past fortnight, the town has had to deal with a recent influx of people due to a range of factors. Many roads leading to other remote communities have been cut off due to flooding.

The town's Cole's Express, BP Roadhouse, Fitzroy Crossing Inn and Fitzroy Crossing Lodge have all been targeted.

Gene Wright, Officer in Charge of Fitzroy Crossing Police Station, used Facebook on Thursday to outline details of the crime spree.

"As a result of investigations into the above offences and evidence gathering, Fitzroy Crossing Police have identified in excess of 50 persons of interest which we are actively targeting and processing," Senior Sergeant Wright wrote.

"Due to the number of offences and offenders involved we have secured additional police resources from Looma, Broome and Derby detectives to assist fast tracking investigations.

Senior Sergeant Wright said so far, 36 people had been "processed" for over 108 offences. Some of the 36 were juveniles.

The offences include 35 counts of stealing, 31 counts of aggravated burglary, 14 counts of damage, trespassing, steal motor vehicle, breach bail and aggravated assault.

"We are continuing to work our way through the list and would like to thank members of the community for their assistance," Senior Sergeant Wright added.

Meanwhile in Broome, an operation targeting low to mid-level drug dealers operating in the West Kimberley has led to a number of arrests.

To date, 12 people have been charged with drug dealing offences.

Broome detectives have charged five people in the last two weeks, four of whom were women.

Police will allege they were actively involved in the illicit distribution of ice in Broome and Derby.

Broome locals have been urged to call Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 with any further information about drug dealing activity.
