Lee Rhiannon hates political donations. Unless they're for Greens

It's always a red letter day in these columnists' lives when Lee Rhiannon inserts herself into the day's news agenda.

So it was Wednesday when the Greens senator threw in her 10 cents' worth on the subject of political donations, following the Australian Electoral Commission's release of political funding disclosures for FY 15/16.

The existing disclosure laws, Rhiannon The Red railed, were "utterly inadequate".

"They encourage a cosy relationship between political parties and vested interests," she told AAP.

Presumably she wasn't referring to the $20,000 the Queensland Greens received from Energreen Nutrition Australia - an outfit whose website tells us has a renewable energy division which has, and we quote: "a number of investments in the renewable energy sector, namely solar, mini-hydro and bio-diesel."

But that doesn't count as vested interest now, does it?

Nor, for that matter, can we imagine she was referring to the almost $300,000 donated to the Australian Greens by the Electrical Trades Union. Because we all know they don't have any vested interests either.
