Police received a triple-zero call about 11.10pm to say that a man had been shot and was seriously injured.

NSW Ambulance paramedics arrived a short time later to find a man in cardiac arrest with a gunshot wound to his chest. They attempted to revive him, but he died at the scene.

It's understood the incident is related to drug disputes and the victim is known to police for low-level drug activity. It is not related to the recent spate of underworld shootings in Sydney and the Gangs Squad is not involved.

Neighbour Amine Jida said she never saw people coming and going from the home, and didn't believe children lived there.

"We never hear nothing, that's why I'm shocked. They're very quiet," she said.

Forensic police, along with detectives from the Homicide Squad and the Rosehill Local Area Command, remained at the house early on Thursday morning examining the crime scene.

The street was blocked to traffic as police spoke to neighbours. The man's body was removed from the house early on Thursday morning.

No arrests have been made over the man's death, and police are understood to be investigating whether up to three people were involved in the shooting.

Police have urged anyone who was on Kennedy Street about 11pm on Wednesday, or who saw any suspicious activity in the area, to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
