Wow. Just wow.
Australia were all but done until a youngster named Marcus Stoinis came in. He slowly consolidated, before launching a blistering crusade to reel in the 286 New Zealand had posted.
And my word did he come close.
Six after six sent the Black Caps into a tailspin, and as the wickets fell around him, Stoinis remained determined.
He became the first Australian to score a hundred and take three wickets, but he wanted the win.
Josh Hazlewood, the last man for Australia, came out and didn't face a ball. He didn't have to. When a single was on, they didn't run.
Until the last bowl of the 47th over. Stoinis didn't get it cleanly, and Hazlewood, desperate to keep Stoinis on strike, was too far out his crease. Kane Williamson, who had earlier dropped Stoinis, connected with the stumps and so ended Australia's hopes.
Josh Hazlewood. Zero runs. Zero balls faced. Out in the middle for almost 30 minutes. Run out.
What a game. This series may have been billed as an also-ran to the summer of cricket, but it is very much alive now.

Stoinis survives again
Ball looks to have hit the pad and Stoinis is still in. Good call from the third umpire (and the on field umpire). Black Caps are not happy but there was no conclusive evidence it hit any bat - looked to be just the top of the pad.
Review
Stoinis might've edged that through to Latham behind the stumps. They make the run but New Zealand all go up. Umpire doesn't give it and it's up for review.
Stoinis cops one from Boult on the hand. Bit of pain but he responds in kind with a powerful four.
Now just 20 to win from 25 balls.

Stoinis runs for a single to retain the strike but Kane Williamson can't find the stumps from point blank.

He's now the highest runscorer at 7 for Australia.

Stoinis hits another maximum. Southee doesn't know what to do. This is now very doable for Australia.
