The city's dance music fans are coming to East Auckland this Sunday for a one-day-only outdoor festival.

Freq's Out East features a huge line-up of New Zealand's top DJs, playing for more than nine hours and across two stages.

The mini dance festival has been created by Howick local Dan Hesson as a way to support an already thriving scene in the area.

Freq Music grew from a Thursday party night at Bosun's Bar in Howick to a sell-out festival that attracts some of the country's leading DJs.

"New Zealand is spoilt with amazing festivals like Rhythm and Vines and Northern Bass, so we wanted to try something similar but not so big," Hesson says.

The February 5 festival will be the third Freq's Out East event, with each party trying to push beyond the limits of the first.

"This time we're ramping things up with things like fire dancers, a bus that converts into a stage, an outdoor venue with a VIP area and a giant Jenga game."

Hesson says the party will have a variety of DJs, for all sorts of age groups, including Dan Aux, Aroha and MC Tali, Tim Phin, Jay Bulletproof and more.

"George FM has been a massive part of us, so it's the George FM-type sound with our own sort of spin on it.

"It's about creating an amazing experience for everyone," Hesson says.
