A man who nearly drank himself to death was caught driving with a blood alcohol concentration of 0.461.
Anyone with a blood alcohol concentration over 0.40 is at risk of the onset of coma or possible death due to respiratory arrest.
A reading of 0.461 is more than nine times the legal limit of 0.05.
In May last year, the 46-year-old man was allegedly involved in a collision in Sunshine.
However, he was too intoxicated to undergo a breath test at the scene, a police spokeswoman said.
His licence was immediately suspended.
Following a later blood test, he returned a blood alcohol concentration of 0.461.
Sunshine police have charged him with driving under the influence of intoxicating liquor and driving whilst having a concentration of alcohol higher than the prescribed amount of 0.05 per cent.
He has been summonsed to appear at Sunshine Magistrates Court on April 3.
