A horror Christmas night on Queensland's roads has left a nine-year-old boy in hospital with critical injuries after being hit by an alleged drunk driver in Springwood, south of Brisbane on Sunday.
In a statement released on Monday, Queensland police believe a vehicle driven by a 24-year-old man was travelling on Jardine Street at around 7:20PM before attempting to turn into Rholanda Cresent, colliding with a parked vehicle and then the young boy.
The car then continued on to crash into a water tank, coming to a halt after colliding with a house and leaving substantial damage.
The boy, who is from Redbank Plains southwest of Brisbane, was reportedly out walking to see Christmas lights and was transported to the Lady Cliento Hospital following the incident.

Elsewhere in Queensland, a man has died on the Gold Coast after being struck by a vehicle on Sunday night. Police were called to Rio Vista Boulevard around 1:25AM and treated the man on the scene however he was unable to be revived.
In a statement, Queensland police believe a number of people arrived at a residence on Rio Vista Boulevard before a disturbance occurred and an unknown number of people left in a vehicle.

It is believed the man left the residence afterwards before being struck by a vehicle that did not stop. Police have set up a crime scene at the location and are investigating the incident.
