Washington athletics was busy over the weekend, hosting games both at home and traveling as far as the east coast for competition against tough NCAA opponents.

Men’s tennis

The Washington men’s tennis team travelled to the East Coast over the weekend to compete in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association Kick-Off.

The Huskies (5-1) opened play keeping their hot streak alive, defeating Alabama and going a perfect 5-for-5 on the season.

Washington didn’t have such luck Sunday against Georgia, and suffered its first loss of the season.

Track and field

The Washington indoor track and field team had two weeks off since its last meet, and the rest proved to favor the Huskies on Friday and Saturday.

The veteran runners showed why they are the top of their class by posting national bests and new school records. But they weren’t the only ones heating up the track, as plenty of newcomers are starting to make their mark.

Women’s tennis

In the Washington women’s tennis team’s first weekend playing in front of a home crowd, the Huskies (6-0) earned two back-to-back victories in Saturday’s doubleheader.

Facing cross-town and border rivals in Seattle University and Portland, the UW played its way to two 6-1 victories.

Gymnastics

The Washington gymnastics team also played in Seattle for the first time this season. The UW welcomed Utah to Alaska Airlines Arena for a full day of competition Saturday.

The Huskies (0-1) were just shy of topping their Pac-12 rival, but fell 197.150-196.300 to the Utes.

Men’s basketball

The Washington men’s basketball team took a trip to the desert and faced both Arizona schools.

The Huskies (9-12, 2-7 Pac-12) didn’t fare well in the warmer climate and suffered a loss to Arizona State on Wednesday followed by another defeat Sunday against Arizona.

Women’s basketball

The No. 7 Washington women’s basketball team had a busy weekend at home, hosting California on Friday and then Stanford on Sunday.

Going 1-of-2 over the weekend, the Huskies (20-3, 8-2) capped off the weekend playing in front of a sold-out crowd at Alaska Airlines Arena.
