Pensioner in court for 'tearing up GRASS in neighbour row'

Valerie Vivian was led away by police in October after she was allegedly spotted digging at newly laid soil (bottom right) in a jointly-owned communal garden in Bathampton, Somerset. It came after the 70-year-old put down a 150ft gravel path on land owned by her neighbours, without seeking their say-so. The incident was the latest in a long-running dispute between the two sides, with Vivian also accused of deliberately planting 50ft leylandii trees to block other residents' views of the picturesque Solsbury Hill (shown centre). Villagers claimed Vivian had grown the 'barricade' as revenge for being refused permission to build on her land. The planning dispute has been raging for nearly 20 years and in 2001 Mrs Vivian planted the conifers, which grow 3ft every year and can reach 100ft. During a brief hearing at Bath Magistrates' Court today (pictured left), Vivian denied criminal damage to property valued under £5,000.

The Government's Brexit plan will be published TOMORROW

Commons Speaker John Bercow slammed Mr Coyle's intervention and ordered him to apologise for the 'unseemly' jibe at the Tory benches. The clash came hours before an historic Commons vote on new laws that will allow Prime Minister Theresa May to invoke Article 50 of the EU treaties and officially begin talks on Brexit. Mrs May earlier confirmed she would publish a white paper on her plans tomorrow, after the landmark vote - which is expected to carry by a landslide when it is called after 7pm.
