Drivers be warned: New speed camera locations in Melbourne revealed

Drivers be warned – police have revealed the locations of new speed cameras and red-light cameras across Melbourne and Geelong.

Four new speed and red-light cameras will be installed at what police have described as "critical intersections" from February 1.

Cameras at nine other intersections will be upgraded.

Electronic signs were put in place at all 13 intersections on Tuesday to warn motorists of the speed cameras.

Those signs will stay in place for a fortnight once the cameras are activated. The warning message will read: "Cameras now enforcing".

The state government has previously denied the move is a revenue gouge, saying the cameras are targeting known safety black spots.

Cameras will be placed at two more intersections in March, although police have yet to reveal their locations.

Two cameras, in Narre Warren and Yarraville, were switched on in October.

The locations have been chosen by a committee made up of representatives from police, VicRoads and the Department of Justice and Regulation.

Red-light infringements attract a $379 fine and three demerit points.

Speeding fines range from $190 to $758.
