Please be good news, crystal ball.

From the outside, Rose Smith leads a relatively normal life.

She rises by 5am, tends to her puppies and chickens before heading to the local pool where she swims half a kilometre and squeezes in some meditation.

It's not until she gets to the office, to tackle some 200 emails would you realise her day job is a little different from most. You see, Smith is a clairvoyant and clairsentient who heads up the biggest network of psychic readers in the Southern Hemisphere.

It's called 'Absolute Soul Secrets' and since launching in 2000 has had an increasing number of calls and inquiries, partly due to social media and partly due to the growing need for guidance of the spiritual variety.

"Relationships are the main reason why people seek our services, followed by career," Smith, who began reading people's energy as a young woman told The Huffington Post Australia.

After relationships and career, many people seek spiritual guidance to awaken their own psychic ability.

"Even people that don't necessarily believe in spiritual concepts will look deeper when they have problems in their relationships," Smith said.

While she doesn't offer private readings today (she wouldn't be able to due to the sheer volume) she describes herself as a 'clear channel' -- a reader of energy, past, present and future -- and spends most of her time running the operations and managing a network of 70 psychics working remotely across Australia and overseas.

Smith, a trained counselor with a degree in psychology explains while there are predictive aspects of each reading, a lot of what they do is centered around helping people discover their own consciousness, and from that, their own answers.

According to research firm IBIS, the psychic services industry is up 2.4 per cent growth from 2011 to 2016.

In 2015, Fortune profiled some of the top business psychics in the U.S., with many charging up to $10,000 a day for guidance.

For Smith, whose business began in the spare bedroom of her Brisbane home, the rising popularity comes down to convenience (she has practitioners on call 24/7) -- and an increasing acceptance of spirituality -- no thanks to concepts like mindfulness and meditation becoming the antidote to stress and ill health.

Smith recommends going into a meditative zone before the consultation to improve concentration and focus.

So, what should you be looking for in a psychic?

Smith explains while there are a lot of good psychics out there sadly, there are some bad ones.

"Choose wisely based on good testimonials and if you notice they are asking a lot of questions that's generally a red flag," Smith said.

A money-back guarantee also shows a psychic is willing to stand by their service.

For Smith, the moment she hears the person's voice within one or two seconds she will have a vision.

"I allow myself to fall into their energy and because a vision will download into my mind quite quickly, and I don't want to forget anything, I'll generally get it all out and then let the person speak," Smith said.

A few days beforehand really think about what you want to know, perhaps even write down some questions -- you're paying good money -- so you don't want to get sidetracked.

Smith explains all psychics read differently and that it's important not to get too caught up in whether they need to use props like say, Tarot cards.

"That just gets the energy going and may help them to relax into the reading," Smith said.

That said, it's a two-way street.

"It's very hard to read people who are closed off," Smith explains.

Smith recommends those who are serious about getting a reading do some preparation beforehand.

"A few days beforehand, really think about what you want to know, perhaps even write down some questions -- you're paying good money -- so you don't want to get sidetracked," Smith said.

"Psychic reading is an art form -- it's not a science -- it's about the connection between two people, the psychic and caller," Smith said.
