Man charged over alleged break-in and sexual assault in Albion Park

A 21-year-old man from the NSW south coast has been hit with a slew of charges after an alleged kidnapping, break and enter and sexual assault in Albion Park in January and an investigation stretching around 100 kilometres.

Emergency services were called to a house on the Princes Highway, Albion Park about 5pm on Wednesday 18 January 2017, following reports that a woman had been assaulted.

Initial investigations revealed that a man allegedly broke into a house and confronted a female resident before he sexually assaulted her and punched her in the face.

As part of their investigation, police later approached a man on O'Riordan Street, in the Sydney suburb of Mascot, around 100 kilometres north. 

"Upon seeing police, the man allegedly ran and officers chased him on foot," police said in a statement.

"Officers caught the man and a struggle ensued after he allegedly assaulted a police officer. The man escaped police however, in doing so drop two bags of drugs that were in his pockets."

At 11am on Tuesday, police made an arrest at a home on Bradman Avenue in Warilla, just south of Wollongong. The 21-year-old man was charged with aggravated break and enter, aggravated sexual assault, kidnapping, break and enter, two counts of assaulting police, two counts of resisting arrest, two counts of drug possession, take and drive conveyance, as well as breaching his bail.

He will appear in Wollongong Local Court today.
