Tully gets almost 100mm of rain in an hour

A far north Queensland town that's among the wettest in Australia has recorded almost 100 millimetres of rain in a single hour after storms sweep the region.

Tully, which is home to the giant Golden Gumboot in honour of its often epic rainfall figures, recorded 98mm between 6am and 7am on Tuesday.

The Bureau of Meteorology has issued a severe storm warning for communities from Tully south to Cardwell and says flash flooding could might over the next several hours.
