Life is a characteristic distinguishing physical entities having biological processes (such as signaling and self-sustaining processes) from those that do not, either because such functions have ceased (death), or because they lack such functions and are classified as inanimate. Various forms of life exist such as plants, animals, fungi, protists, archaea, and bacteria. The criteria can at times be ambiguous and may or may not define viruses, viroids or potential artificial life as living. Biology is the primary science concerned with the study of life, although many other sciences are involved.
Throughout history there have been many theories about life including materialism, hylomorphism and vitalism. Even today it is a challenge for scientists and philosophers to define life. The smallest contiguous unit of life is called an organism. Organisms are composed of one or more cells, undergo metabolism, maintain homeostasis, can grow, respond to stimuli, reproduce (either sexually or asexually) and, through evolution, adapt to their environment in successive generations. A diverse array of living organisms can be found in the biosphere of Earth, and the properties common to these organisms are a carbon- and water-based cellular form with complex organization and heritable genetic information.
The future is what will happen in the time after the present. Its arrival is considered inevitable due to the existence of time and the laws of physics. Due to the apparent nature of reality and the unavoidability of the future, everything that currently exists and will exist can be categorized as either permanent, meaning that it will exist forever, or temporary, meaning that it will end. The future and the concept of eternity have been major subjects of philosophy, religion, and science, and defining them non-controversially has consistently eluded the greatest of minds. In the Occidental view, which uses a linear conception of time, the future is the portion of the projected time line that is anticipated to occur. In special relativity, the future is considered absolute future, or the future light cone.
In the philosophy of time, presentism is the belief that only the present exists and the future and the past are unreal. Religions consider the future when they address issues such as karma, life after death, and eschatologies that study what the end of time and the end of the world will be. Religious figures such as prophets and diviners have claimed to see into the future. Organized efforts to predict or forecast the future may have derived from observations by early man of heavenly objects.
Future Life, known as Future in its first year, was a science and science fiction magazine published from 1978 to 1981 by O'Quinn Studios. Contributors included Harlan Ellison, Ed Naha, Boris Vallejo, and many more. It covered futuristic topics - largely space travel - as well current scientific events of the time, and featured reviews of science fiction movies, books and comics, as well as interviews with Arthur C. Clarke, Anne McCaffrey, Ray Bradbury and many more scientists, artists and authors.
Back to the Future is a 1985 American science-fiction adventure comedy film directed by Robert Zemeckis, written by Zemeckis and Bob Gale, produced by Gale and Neil Canton, and starring Michael J. Fox, Christopher Lloyd, Lea Thompson, Crispin Glover and Thomas F. Wilson. Steven Spielberg, Kathleen Kennedy, and Frank Marshall served as executive producers. In the film, teenager Marty McFly (Fox) is sent back in time to 1955, where he meets his future parents in high school and accidentally becomes his mother's romantic interest. Marty must repair the damage to history by causing his parents-to-be to fall in love, and with the help of friend, eccentric scientist Dr. Emmett "Doc" Brown (Lloyd), he must find a way to return to 1985.
Zemeckis and Gale wrote the script after Gale mused upon whether he would have befriended his father if they had attended school together. Various film studios rejected the script until the financial success of Zemeckis' Romancing the Stone. Zemeckis approached Spielberg, who agreed to produce the project at Amblin Entertainment, with Universal Pictures as distributor. The first choice for the role of Marty McFly was Michael J. Fox. However, he was busy filming his television series Family Ties and the show's producers would not allow him to star in the film. Consequently, Eric Stoltz was cast in the role. During filming, Stoltz and the filmmakers decided that the role was miscast, and Fox was again approached for the part. Now with more flexibility in his schedule and the blessing of his show's producers, Fox managed to work out a timetable in which he could give enough time and commitment to both.
The future is the time after the present.
Future or The Future may also refer to:
This future life's been freaking me out
Still attached to being the new kid in town
No family, no real responsibilities
In my friends, they're diving in deep
To all this holy matrimony
House, a dog, two kids and a van
Good jobs in real estate, a fireman
Why the hell does it scare the shit out of me
Am I different, am I afraid
Life's been great to me
It feels a little sad
Gotta break out of here
Appreciate what I have
Life's been great to me
It feels a little sad
Gotta break out of here
Appreciate what I have
Why do I want what I haven't got
So planted on the things that I want
Making pretty all these memories
Cause it's easy to get stuck
The spirit lives been guiding me out
A love so strong, erasing all of my doubt
I see a future that was made for me
Wherever I may go
Life's been great to me
It feels a little sad
Gotta break out of here
Appreciate what I have
Life's been great to me
Oh, yeah, it feels a little sad
Gotta break out of here
Appreciate what I have
Cause it's easy to get stuck
It happens a lot
Cause it's easy to get stuck
It happens
I can't avoid anything
Got to take it all in
Take a battle stance
I know that I can win
It's cliche of time, I know it must be true
When what you want is what you have
Then you know you found you
Life's been great to me
Oh, yeah, it feels a little sad
Gotta break out of here
Appreciate what I have
Life's been great to me
Oh, yeah, it feels a little sad
Gotta break out of here
Appreciate what I have
Life's been great to me
Life's been great
Life's been great to me
Life's been great
Oh oh
Life's been great to me
