Now you can give your Audi R8 a sleeve tattoo.
Audi has developed a new process which enables it to embed lettering or graphics into the side blades - the black part after the side doors - of your R8 supercar.
The process of partial matting, as Audi calls it, is made possible by blasting a powder on to the desired area that roughens the lacquer on the surface by a few thousandths of a millimetre. This then makes the matt markings become visible against the gloss surface.
This process is of course weather proof, making it much more resilient to other forms of personalisation such as stickers, and can be anything from a koi fish, a bit of barbed wire or just your name in big block letters, as long as it doesn't impeach on third party rights.
The process is only currently going to be offered on the R8 Coupe and Spyder, and is limited to surfaces of a metre by a metre, but Audi has plans to extend the option to more cars in its range.
