Fan favouroite: Viewers called for Richard to be the star of his own show after his appearance on last night's episode. He appeared on the first series of the Channel 4 show

The 42-year-old appeared on the first series of the Channel 4 show and has returned a number of times in search of love.

He unwittingly offended previous matches, stealing chips off one woman's plate and upsetting a Ukrainian-born woman by talking about Chernobyl.

But Richard's quirky manner won over Lucy, who also has Asberger's Syndrome, and she asked him on a second date - his first ever. Last night's episode also ended with the promise of more romance as Lucy said she would like to see him again.

Their fledgling relationship got off to a rocky start when the matchmaker phoned and told Richard his date lived in Kent, which is outside of Richard's desired 'five-mile radius'.

Fortunately Lucy was willing to travel to Richard for their first date and the pair met in a railway cafe.

Richard turned on the charm by flexing his biceps, even though his mother had told him not to.

Hilarious: Richard left fans in stitches after he joked his handicap was 'autism' on the mini golf date

He said: 'I may not look particularly strong, but I’m one of the biggest, strongest men in the whole world.'

His date then said he was a 'bit of a handful' but promised 'you haven't seen the last of me'.

For their second date Richard broke his five-mile rule and travelled to Ramsgate, declaring he was 'knackered' when he arrived.

The pair met in a cafe before heading to the mini golf course.

Showing off: Richard ignored his mother's advice and flexed his muscles for Lucy

At one point Lucy asked: 'What is your handicap' and Richard replied: 'Autism'. She clarified: 'I meant your golf handicap but okay'.

The exchange sent fans into a frenzy.

One wrote: 'Richard is by far the best person on the Undateables'.

Going the distance: Richard broke his own rule about not travelling more than five miles to take Lucy to the mini golf course

Another posted: 'Every time I think #undateables can't get any better it does. I think might finally have met his match!'

One woman offered: 'I'll date Richard off The Undateables, love him'.

The future looks bright for Richard and Lucy, with producers hinting he could finally have met his first proper girlfriend at the end of the show.
