If you’re looking for a home in the District where the median price is $550,000 and your budget is under $400,000, you’re likely to need to move a little farther from downtown or into a smaller or older place. But moving out of the city doesn’t necessarily require giving up access to amenities or public transit.

This week’s affordable house of the week, a townhouse in Alexandria, is a short drive from both the Kingstowne and Springfield Town Centers, which offer shops and restaurants. In addition, residents are about two miles from the Franconia-Springfield Metro station and just under three miles from the Van Dorn Street Metro station. Commuter buses serve the area and link residents to Metro.

The townhouse at 6584 Yadkin Court is priced at $369,950, with a monthly homeowner’s association fee of $86. Annual taxes are $3,547.

Built in 1973, the two-story interior townhouse has three bedrooms and three bathrooms. With 1,320 square feet, the townhouse has new hardwood flooring in the foyer, living room and dining room. The upstairs bedrooms all have carpet.

The main level living and dining rooms have crown moldings and the remodeled kitchen has stainless-steel appliances, granite counters, ceramic tile flooring and a mosaic backsplash. The master bedroom has a full wall of closets and an updated master bathroom. The hall bath has a combination shower and whirlpool tub.

The townhouse has a patio and comes with two assigned parking spaces. The Franconia Commons townhouse community includes a swimming pool, tennis courts, playgrounds, a baseball field and basketball courts.

The assigned schools for the neighborhood are Franconia Elementary, Twain Middle and Edison High, each rated five out of 10 by GreatSchools.org, which means they are average for the area.
