Dinosaurs are a diverse group of animals of the clade Dinosauria. They first appeared during the Triassic period, 231.4 million years ago, and were the dominant terrestrial vertebrates for 135 million years, from the start of the Jurassic (about 200 million years ago) until the end of the Cretaceous (66 million years ago), when the Cretaceous–Paleogene extinction event led to the extinction of most dinosaur groups at the end of the Mesozoic Era. At its core, evolution is a weeding out process. Remove the weak and flawed and move forward with the best and fittest among existing species. For a species to have lasted through not only generations but across eras and time periods, those inside of that species have to have adapted within their present environment and preserved their existence amidst predatory threats. Humans may be intellectually advanced beings, but we never had to find a means of survival while dinosaurs roamed the earth.
Other creatures, however, did. And, believe it or not, some of them have stuck around to this very day. While we humans view ourselves as the predominant species on the planet, we weren’t the first one’s here, nor are we currently the longest-reigning residents of the planet. When you think about it, this list of prehistoric creatures that continue to exist into the present day features species that have lived alongside – and survived and outlived – some of the biggest, nastiest and most vicious carnivores to ever walk the earth. It helps that so many of the species dwell under water, leaving them safe from some threats while prone to others and also making them rarely seen and almost mythical in nature.
Indeed, little seems to have changed for these species as they’ve forged through so much of the universe’s existence. Most have maintained a remarkable level of similarity in their appearance and behavior from their prehistoric selves. Incredibly, these creatures may not represent a complete collection of what still exists among us. Despite modern advances in scientific technology, we are still learning of existing species both new and old, including ones thought long since extinct. The ancient coelacanth fish, for instance, was thought to have died out 65 million years ago, with researchers unaware that lucky fishermen off the coast of Africa had been occasionally catching them for years. Ultimately, one species came to be officially rediscovered in 1938 and another more recently in 1998.
What we do know, however, is that we share the planet with living things that go back hundreds of millions of years. From ferocious sharks and alligators to living organisms as inert as a sea sponge, species both aggressive and tacit have stuck around long-term. All they share is an ancestry that goes back longer than we could possibly fathom. To put the life span of some of these species into perspective, the modern form of humans has a lineage that only traces back 200,000 years, with our earliest ancestors dating back to about six million years ago. In all of these estimated timelines, you can probably quibble on a million years here and there, but they still paint a picture of some pretty old species.
Suffice to say, the ancestors of these creatures would probably have some stories to tell, provided that they were intelligent beings, could speak and didn’t die millions of years ago. Still, the survival skills of their species clearly can’t be questioned. Here are 10 prehistoric creatures that continue to live among us.

Ever wondered what the most terrifying creature that walked this earth looked like? Be prepared to be horrified by these prehistoric animals that make a T-rex look cute. Im sam presenting for bills channel, and here are 10 of the scariest prehistoric animals that ever existed.
Number 10: Gigantopithecus
This genus of an ape roamed the forests of Asia where it walked at 3 metres high, weighing up to 540kg. More than twice the size of an average human, this monster resembled something akin to king kong.
Number 9: Edestus
Resembling that of the modern great white shark, this gargantuan fish had teeth that protruded out of its mouth like giant shears, ready to devour any marine life in its path. Growing up to 6 metres in length, paleontologists believe that unlike modern-day sharks, they did not shed worn or broken teeth.
Number 8:Madtsoia
Imagine a boa constrictor on steroids. The Madtsoia was a giant snake that could reach 9 metres in length, easily taking anything down in its path. Its staple food included dinosaurs and other medium sized predators it could find.
Number 7: Jaekelopterus
What’s more terrifying than a scorpion? How about a sea scorpion, or more specifically, the largest sea scorpion in the world, at around 2 and a half metres long. This monstrosity of a scorpion had a 46-centimetre-long claw that could rip its prey into shreds and was also the largest known arthropod in existence.
Number 6: Arthropleura
One of the largest known land invertebrates of all time, this giant millipede grew up to 2.3 metres in length and barely had any competition due to its sheer size.
Number 5: Liopleurodon
This colossal sized marine reptile was a savage carnivore and could grow up to 6.39 metres in length. Being the apex predator in the middle Jurassic period, it ruled the seas that covered Europe, devouring anything in its path.
Number 4: Dunkleosteus
One of the largest fishes in the world, its reputation preceded it as a deadly predator that roamed the seas. With bones in place of teeth, it could clamp its mouth shut in less than 60 milliseconds, with a force of over 7,400N.
Number 3: Titanoboa
We have heard of the Madtsoia at number 8, so imagine that on steroids. The Titanoboa is the largest snake ever discovered, reaching up to 13 metres in length and being extremely versatile in its hunting. It strikes from underwater, crushing animals to death with its sheer proportions.
Number 2: Megalodon
Being the largest shark in the world, it reached 18 metres in length and was easily three times larger than a great white shark. The megalodon was undoubtedly the king of the sea, eating whales for food on a daily basis.
Number 1: Spinosaurus
Often unheard of, this carnivorous dinosaur puts the T-rex in shame. Being the largest carnivorous dinosaur that existed, it could reach 18 metres in length and consumed crocodiles, giant turtles and other dinosaurs for food. Additionally, it had a characteristic sail like structure on its back that functioned as a theromoregulator. Truly an impressive combination of both beauty and power.

Prehistoric Dinosaur Pig - Documentary Films
For many years scientists have speculated that the speedy, carnivorous raptors (more appropriately termed Dromaeosaurs), such as Velociraptor and Deinonychus were pack hunters. Movies such as "Jurassic Park" popularised theories about these animals, making them out to be vicious, ruthless, yet intelligent killers.
Hollywood's depiction of these swift hunters stretched the truth to say the least, the likes of Velociraptor became a man-sized predator when in truth it stood about one metre tall. Even the sickle-shaped foot claw on the second toe was blown out of proportion to some extent. Movie Directors wanted to show this claw as a razor- sharp scythe capable of tearing victims to pieces, recent studies indicate that in Velociraptor's case the claw (which barely exceeded 9 cm in length was not a terrible slashing weapon. It may have had a sharp point and been an effective "grappling hook" to help the animal jump onto and stay on its larger victims.
Scientists Examine Fossilised Footprints
However, the Dromaeosaurs did come in different sizes, although the basic body plan - swift biped with a stiffened tail to assist with balance and sharp turns, remains the same of the genera associated with this family. Dinosaurs such as Utahraptor represent very large and formidable beasts.
Now evidence to back up how raptors have been depicted in the movies has emerged from China. A recently excavated fossil trackway shows six Dromaeosaurs tracks, all moving in the same direction. If the tracks were made at the same time (and there is some palaeontological data to suggest this), then could this be a pack of raptors out on patrol?
Research Team Studies Pack Hunting
A joint international team drawn from the University of Chicago and the Qingdao Institute of Marine Geology have uncovered a series of footprints that capture the moment when six equally sized Dromaeosaurs walked side by side next to some flowing water, possibly a stream or small river.
The fossil site is in the Shandong Province of eastern China and the sediments have been dated to between 120 -100 million years ago, placing the footprints in the Cretaceous period. This is the first fossil evidence palaeontologists have of possible pack behaviour in these animals. Ripple marks also preserved in the rock strata indicate that the trackways were covered shortly after they were made, thus strengthening the hypothesis that this evidence represents a group moving together.
This site has already provided a number of sets of dinosaur prints, providing a great deal of material for ichnologists (the term used to describe scientists who specialise in studying trackways). The report on the evidence for Dromaeosaur pack hunting plus some additional information on the trackways of a smaller Dromaeosaur found nearby have been published in the European scientific journal "Naturwissenschaften".
Two-Toed Dinosaur Footprints
In the trackways, two clear toe prints can be seen. The third toe print (actually representing the second digit on the foot) is only partial, indicating that this toe, the one with the sickle claw was held off the ground. Scientists had suspected that the sickle claw was raised off the ground, examination of the joints in the second toe bones indicated that this was probably the case. These beautifully preserved tracks confirm the theories, that indeed the sickle toe was carried off the ground.
The larger tracks contain foot prints about 28 cm long and 12 cm wide, these indicate the presence of larger Dromaeosaurs in this area, possibly about the size of Deinonychus from North America. Ironically, these tracks may represent an animal about as big as the over-sized Velociraptors as seen in the movie "Jurassic Park". The second set of tracks represent a much smaller raptor, possibly the same size of a Velociraptor (one metre tall at the hips).

Documentary film
A documentary film is a nonfictional motion picture intended to document some aspect of reality, primarily for the purposes of instruction or maintaining a historical record. Such films were originally shot on film stock—the only medium available—but now include video and digital productions that can be either direct-to-video, made into a TV show or released for screening in cinemas. Defining documentary

ytmnd, an initialism for "You're the Man Now, Dog", is an online community centered on the creation of hosted memetic web pages (known within the community as fads, YTMNDs or sites) featuring a juxtaposition of an image (still or short animation) centered or tiled along with optional large zooming text and a looping sound file. Images and sound files used in YTMNDs are usually either created or edited by users. YTMND is generally a humor website, owing its tone and culture to the original YTMND and its early imitators. Many YTMNDs, however, range the entire spectrum of what may interest the viewer, from high art to simple entertainment to the political.
History
YTMND originated in 2001 from Max Goldberg's original website, "yourethemannowdog.com", which he registered along with "dustindiamond.com" after seeing a trailer for the movie Finding Forrester in which Sean Connery says the line "You're the man now, dog!". Originally, the website featured the text "YOURE THE MAN NOW DOG.COM" drawn out in 3D ASCII text with a sound loop from the Finding Forrester trailer of Sean Connery reciting the phrase "You're the man now, dog!". The advent of zoomed text currently on the website was seen in the following months, where the website also featured a photograph of Sean Connery. Goldberg's new creation inspired others to make similar sites with other movie and television quotations (or any other sound clip they wished to use). At first, Goldberg maintained a list and mirror of these sites, but the list soon became exceptionally long.

In this video we cover 10 amazing prehistoric animals that you wouldn't want around today. Ever wondered what the most terrifying creature that walked this earth looked like? Be prepared to be horrified by these prehistoric animals that make a T-rex look cute. Im sam presenting for bills channel, and here are 10 of the scariest prehistoric animals that ever existed. Number 10: Gigantopithecus This genus of an ape roamed the forests of Asia where it walked at 3 metres high, weighing up to 540kg. More than twice the size of an average human, this monster resembled something akin to king kong. Number 9: Edestus Resembling that of the modern great white shark, this gargantuan fish had teeth that protruded out of its mouth like giant shears, ready to devour any marine life in its path. Growing up to 6 metres in length, paleontologists believe that unlike modern-day sharks, they did not shed worn or broken teeth. Number 8:Madtsoia Imagine a boa constrictor on steroids. The Madtsoia was a giant snake that could reach 9 metres in length, easily taking anything down in its path. Its staple food included dinosaurs and other medium sized predators it could find. Number 7: Jaekelopterus What’s more terrifying than a scorpion? How about a sea scorpion, or more specifically, the largest sea scorpion in the world, at around 2 and a half metres long. This monstrosity of a scorpion had a 46-centimetre-long claw that could rip its prey into shreds and was also the largest known arthropod in existence. Number 6: Arthropleura One of the largest known land invertebrates of all time, this giant millipede grew up to 2.3 metres in length and barely had any competition due to its sheer size. Number 5: Liopleurodon This colossal sized marine reptile was a savage carnivore and could grow up to 6.39 metres in length. Being the apex predator in the middle Jurassic period, it ruled the seas that covered Europe, devouring anything in its path. Number 4: Dunkleosteus One of the largest fishes in the world, its reputation preceded it as a deadly predator that roamed the seas. With bones in place of teeth, it could clamp its mouth shut in less than 60 milliseconds, with a force of over 7,400N. Number 3: Titanoboa We have heard of the Madtsoia at number 8, so imagine that on steroids. The Titanoboa is the largest snake ever discovered, reaching up to 13 metres in length and being extremely versatile in its hunting. It strikes from underwater, crushing animals to death with its sheer proportions. Number 2: Megalodon Being the largest shark in the world, it reached 18 metres in length and was easily three times larger than a great white shark. The megalodon was undoubtedly the king of the sea, eating whales for food on a daily basis. Number 1: Spinosaurus Often unheard of, this carnivorous dinosaur puts the T-rex in shame. Being the largest carnivorous dinosaur that existed, it could reach 18 metres in length and consumed crocodiles, giant turtles and other dinosaurs for food. Additionally, it had a characteristic sail like structure on its back that functioned as a theromoregulator. Truly an impressive combination of both beauty and power. Prehistoric Dinosaur Pig - Documentary Films For many years scientists have speculated that the speedy, carnivorous raptors (more appropriately termed Dromaeosaurs), such as Velociraptor and Deinonychus were pack hunters. Movies such as "Jurassic Park" popularised theories about these animals, making them out to be vicious, ruthless, yet intelligent killers. Hollywood's depiction of these swift hunters stretched the truth to say the least, the likes of Velociraptor became a man-sized predator when in truth it stood about one metre tall. Even the sickle-shaped foot claw on the second toe was blown out of proportion to some extent. Movie Directors wanted to show this claw as a razor- sharp scythe capable of tearing victims to pieces, recent studies indicate that in Velociraptor's case the claw (which barely exceeded 9 cm in length was not a terrible slashing weapon. It may have had a sharp point and been an effective "grappling hook" to help the animal jump onto and stay on its larger victims. Scientists Examine Fossilised Footprints However, the Dromaeosaurs did come in different sizes, although the basic body plan - swift biped with a stiffened tail to assist with balance and sharp turns, remains the same of the genera associated with this family. Dinosaurs such as Utahraptor represent very large and formidable beasts. Now evidence to back up how raptors have been depicted in the movies has emerged from China. A recently excavated fossil trackway shows six Dromaeosaurs tracks, all moving in the same direction. If the tracks were made at the same time (and there is some palaeontological data to suggest this), then could this be a pack of raptors out on patrol? Research Team Studies Pack Hunting A joint international team drawn from the University of Chicago and the Qingdao Institute of Marine Geology have uncovered a series of footprints that capture the moment when six equally sized Dromaeosaurs walked side by side next to some flowing water, possibly a stream or small river. The fossil site is in the Shandong Province of eastern China and the sediments have been dated to between 120 -100 million years ago, placing the footprints in the Cretaceous period. This is the first fossil evidence palaeontologists have of possible pack behaviour in these animals. Ripple marks also preserved in the rock strata indicate that the trackways were covered shortly after they were made, thus strengthening the hypothesis that this evidence represents a group moving together. This site has already provided a number of sets of dinosaur prints, providing a great deal of material for ichnologists (the term used to describe scientists who specialise in studying trackways). The report on the evidence for Dromaeosaur pack hunting plus some additional information on the trackways of a smaller Dromaeosaur found nearby have been published in the European scientific journal "Naturwissenschaften". Two-Toed Dinosaur Footprints In the trackways, two clear toe prints can be seen. The third toe print (actually representing the second digit on the foot) is only partial, indicating that this toe, the one with the sickle claw was held off the ground. Scientists had suspected that the sickle claw was raised off the ground, examination of the joints in the second toe bones indicated that this was probably the case. These beautifully preserved tracks confirm the theories, that indeed the sickle toe was carried off the ground. The larger tracks contain foot prints about 28 cm long and 12 cm wide, these indicate the presence of larger Dromaeosaurs in this area, possibly about the size of Deinonychus from North America. Ironically, these tracks may represent an animal about as big as the over-sized Velociraptors as seen in the movie "Jurassic Park". At its core, evolution is a weeding out process. Remove the weak and flawed and move forward with the best and fittest among existing species. For a species to have lasted through not only generations but across eras and time periods, those inside of that species have to have adapted within their present environment and preserved their existence amidst predatory threats. Humans may be intellectually advanced beings, but we never had to find a means of survival while dinosaurs roamed the earth.
Other creatures, however, did. And, believe it or not, some of them have stuck around to this very day. While we humans view ourselves as the predominant species on the planet, we weren’t the first one’s here, nor are we currently the longest-reigning residents of the planet. When you think about it, this list of prehistoric creatures that continue to exist into the present day features species that have lived alongside – and survived and outlived – some of the biggest, nastiest and most vicious carnivores to ever walk the earth. Number 10: Gigantopithecus
This genus of an ape roamed the forests of Asia where it walked at 3 metres high, weighing up to 540kg. More than twice the size of an average human, this monster resembled something akin to king kong.
Number 9: Edestus
Resembling that of the modern great white shark, this gargantuan fish had teeth that protruded out of its mouth like giant shears, ready to devour any marine life in its path. Growing up to 6 metres in length, paleontologists believe that unlike modern-day sharks, they did not shed worn or broken teeth.
Number 8:Madtsoia
Imagine a boa constrictor on steroids. The Madtsoia was a giant snake that could reach 9 metres in length, easily taking anything down in its path. Its staple food included dinosaurs and other medium sized predators it could find.
Number 7: Jaekelopterus
What’s more terrifying than a scorpion? How about a sea scorpion, or more specifically, the largest sea scorpion in the world, at around 2 and a half metres long. This monstrosity of a scorpion had a 46-centimetre-long claw that could rip its prey into shreds and was also the largest known arthropod in existence.
Number 6: Arthropleura
One of the largest known land invertebrates of all time, this giant millipede grew up to 2.3 metres in length and barely had any competition due to its sheer size.
Number 5: Liopleurodon
This colossal sized marine reptile was a savage carnivore and could grow up to 6.39 metres in length. Being the apex predator in the middle Jurassic period, it ruled the seas that covered Europe, devouring anything in its path.
Number 4: Dunkleosteus
One of the largest fishes in the world, its reputation preceded it as a deadly predator that roamed the seas. With bones in place of teeth, it could clamp its mouth shut in less than 60 milliseconds, with a force of over 7,400N.
Number 3: Titanoboa
We have heard of the Madtsoia at number 8, so imagine that on steroids. The Titanoboa is the largest snake ever discovered, reaching up to 13 metres in length and being extremely versatile in its hunting. It strikes from underwater, crushing animals to death with its sheer proportions.
Number 2: Megalodon
Being the largest shark in the world, it reached 18 metres in length and was easily three times larger than a great white shark. The megalodon was undoubtedly the king of the sea, eating whales for food on a daily basis.
Number 1: Spinosaurus
Often unheard of, this carnivorous dinosaur puts the T-rex in shame. Being the largest carnivorous dinosaur that existed, it could reach 18 metres in length and consumed crocodiles, giant turtles and other dinosaurs for food. Additionally, it had a characteristic sail like structure on its back that functioned as a theromoregulator. Truly an impressive combination of both beauty and power.

For many years scientists have speculated that the speedy, carnivorous raptors (more appropriately termed Dromaeosaurs), such as Velociraptor and Deinonychus were pack hunters. Movies such as "Jurassic Park" popularised theories about these animals, making them out to be vicious, ruthless, yet intelligent killers.
Hollywood's depiction of these swift hunters stretched the truth to say the least, the likes of Velociraptor became a man-sized predator when in truth it stood about one metre tall. Even the sickle-shaped foot claw on the second toe was blown out of proportion to some extent. Movie Directors wanted to show this claw as a razor- sharp scythe capable of tearing victims to pieces, recent studies indicate that in Velociraptor's case the claw (which barely exceeded 9 cm in length was not a terrible slashing weapon. It may have had a sharp point and been an effective "grappling hook" to help the animal jump onto and stay on its larger victims.
Scientists Examine Fossilised Footprints
However, the Dromaeosaurs did come in different sizes, although the basic body plan - swift biped with a stiffened tail to assist with balance and sharp turns, remains the same of the genera associated with this family. Dinosaurs such as Utahraptor represent very large and formidable beasts.
Now evidence to back up how raptors have been depicted in the movies has emerged from China. A recently excavated fossil trackway shows six Dromaeosaurs tracks, all moving in the same direction. If the tracks were made at the same time (and there is some palaeontological data to suggest this), then could this be a pack of raptors out on patrol?
Research Team Studies Pack Hunting
A joint international team drawn from the University of Chicago and the Qingdao Institute of Marine Geology have uncovered a series of footprints that capture the moment when six equally sized Dromaeosaurs walked side by side next to some flowing water, possibly a stream or small river.
The fossil site is in the Shandong Province of eastern China and the sediments have been dated to between 120 -100 million years ago, placing the footprints in the Cretaceous period. This is the first fossil evidence palaeontologists have of possible pack behaviour in these animals. Ripple marks also preserved in the rock strata indicate that the trackways were covered shortly after they were made, thus strengthening the hypothesis that this evidence represents a group moving together.
This site has already provided a number of sets of dinosaur prints, providing a great deal of material for ichnologists (the term used to describe scientists who specialise in studying trackways). The report on the evidence for Dromaeosaur pack hunting plus some additional information on the trackways of a smaller Dromaeosaur found nearby have been published in the European scientific journal "Naturwissenschaften".
Two-Toed Dinosaur Footprints
In the trackways, two clear toe prints can be seen. The third toe print (actually representing the second digit on the foot) is only partial, indicating that this toe, the one with the sickle claw was held off the ground. Scientists had suspected that the sickle claw was raised off the ground, examination of the joints in the second toe bones indicated that this was probably the case. These beautifully preserved tracks confirm the theories, that indeed the sickle toe was carried off the ground.
The larger tracks contain foot prints about 28 cm long and 12 cm wide, these indicate the presence of larger Dromaeosaurs in this area, possibly about the size of Deinonychus from North America. Ironically, these tracks may represent an animal about as big as the over-sized Velociraptors as seen in the movie "Jurassic Park". The second set of tracks represent a much smaller raptor, possibly the same size of a Velociraptor (one metre tall at the hips).

This site has already provided a number of sets of dinosaur prints, providing a great deal of material for ichnologists (the term used to describe scientists who specialise in studying trackways). The report on the evidence for Dromaeosaur pack hunting plus some additional information on the trackways of a smaller Dromaeosaur found nearby have been published in the European scientific journal "Naturwissenschaften".
Two-Toed Dinosaur Footprints
In the trackways, two clear toe prints can be seen. The third toe print (actually representing the second digit on the foot) is only partial, indicating that this toe, the one with the sickle claw was held off the ground. Scientists had suspected that the sickle claw was raised off the ground, examination of the joints in the second toe bones indicated that this was probably the case. These beautifully preserved tracks confirm the theories, that indeed the sickle toe was carried off the ground.
The larger tracks contain foot prints about 28 cm long and 12 cm wide, these indicate the presence of larger Dromaeosaurs in this area, possibly about the size of Deinonychus from North America. Ironically, these tracks may represent an animal about as big as the over-sized Velociraptors as seen in the movie "Jurassic Park". The second set of tracks represent a much smaller raptor, possibly the same size of a Velociraptor (one metre tall at the hips).
