A load of boulder-dash! Vanessa Hudgens claims stone carving controversy was much ado about nothing as she merely 'wrote' on rock

She was subjected to a verbal stoning last year after allegedly carving her name onto a rock at a national park.

And Vanessa Hudgens has hit out at the criticism by arguing she had merely chalked the moniker onto said stone during an radio interview on Monday.

The High School Musical star ended up being subject to an investigation after she and boyfriend Austin Butler were spotted drawing a heart and their names into the rock in Arizona’s Coconino National Forest.

The 28-year-old told Sirius XM host Sway Calloway: 'Me and my boyfriend were on a hike and then wrote our names on a rock with another rock and then people accused me of carving into this rock.

'But literally I took a piece of rock and wrote on the rock.

'It’s the type of thing where it’s chalk, so if you rub it, it comes off. So I knew with the first rain it would go away.

And she claimed she is such a tree hugger herself that she cannot understand why she would be subject to criticism.

She said: 'I’m such an earth person. I love mother nature. I love being connected to the natural environment.

'It was a whole situation that was really frustrating. I don’t mean to disrespect anyone or the land. It’s not like I took a key and carved it.'

The frugal Spring Breakers favourite also pointed out she has been left out of pocket by the whole dastardly affair, as she had to pay $1,000 in restitution to the United States Forest Service for damage of property.

She said: 'I donated a lot of money to the park to say sorry for the drama it’s caused you guys, but like literally with the first rain, it would’ve washed off.'
