This video shows the changes in Arctic sea ice coverage from 1979 to 2012. It was developed by Ignatius G. Rigor at the University of Washington, Seattle Applied Physics Lab. The pulses depict the annual expansion and contraction of the sea ice from winter to summer. Pay attention to how much ice coverage there is in 1979 compared with the video's end in 2012. The dots represent the buoys that measure the ice. The very end includes a flashback to 1979 to make it easier to visualize the changes.
Muscle contraction is the activation of tension-generating sites within muscle fibers. In physiology, muscle contraction does not mean muscle shortening because muscle tension can be produced without changes in muscle length such as holding a heavy book or a dumbbell at the same position. The termination of muscle contraction is followed by muscle relaxation, which is a return of the muscle fibers to their low tension-generating state. Muscle contractions can be described based on two variables: length and tension. A muscle contraction is described as isometric if the muscle tension changes but the muscle length remains the same. In contrast, a muscle contraction is isotonic if muscle length changes but the muscle tension remains the same.If the muscle length shortens, the contraction is ...
Outstanding live performance of Famous Blue Raincoat by Leonard Cohen on German TV Lyrics: It's four in the morning, the end of December I'm writing you now just to see if you're better New York is cold, but I like where I'm living There's music on Clinton Street all through the evening. I hear that you're building your little house deep in the desert You're living for nothing now, I hope you're keeping some kind of record. Yes, and Jane came by with a lock of your hair She said that you gave it to her That night that you planned to go clear Did you ever go clear? Ah, the last time we saw you you looked so much older Your famous blue raincoat was torn at the shoulder You'd been to the station to meet every train And you came home without Lili Marlene And you treated my woman to a fla...
The events and conditions that lead to the revolution and its populist, nationalist and, later, Shi'a Islamic character include a conservative backlash against the Westernizing and secularizing efforts of the Western-backed Shah, a rise in expectations created by the 1973 oil revenue windfall and an overly ambitious economic program, anger over a short, sharp economic contraction in 1977–78, and other shortcomings of the previous regime. The Shah's regime became increasingly oppressive, brutal, corrupt, and extravagant.[33][35] It also suffered from basic functional failures that brought economic bottlenecks, shortages, and inflation.[36] The Shah was perceived by many as beholden to – if not a puppet of – a non-Muslim Western power (the United States)[37][38] whose culture was affecting ...
Nazi human experimentation or nazi medical experiments was a series of medical experiments on large numbers of prisoners (including children), largely Jews from across Europe, but also Romani, Sinti, ethnic Poles, Soviet POWs and disabled Germans, by Nazi Germany in its concentration camps mainly in the early 1940s, during World War II and the Holocaust. During World War II, a number of German physicians conducted painful and often deadly experiments on thousands of concentration camp prisoners without their consent. Prisoners were forced into participating; they did not willingly volunteer and no consent was given for the procedures. Typically, the experiments resulted in death, trauma, disfigurement or permanent disability, and as such are considered as examples of medical torture. Af...

Toot, Lonely Lover or simply Cool Ruler are just some of the nick names of the rude boy of reggae. Born in Fletchers land Kingston Jamaica on the 15th July 1950, Gregory Anthony Isaacs was the first son of Lester Isaacs and Enid Murrary. Gregory started out as an electrician and cabinet maker. His career in music remained his ambition. He was inspired by singers such as Sam Cooke, Percy Sledge, Delroy Wilson, Alton Ellis and Ken Boothe. Gregory began his recording career in the late sixties with "Another Heartache" for singer/producer Winston Sinclair. Although the record was not successful he was not discouraged and in 1969 he formed a group called The Concords with Penro Bramwell. They recorded a few 45s "Buttoo", "I Need Your Loving" and "Don't Let Me Suffer" for producer Rupie Edwards...

This immensely successful show, that featured intimate interviews, was both produced and hosted by Ricardo. Adopting the face-to-face formula was a calculated smart move that allowed Ricardo to probe his subjects in greater depth. My only recollection of this band was their dynamic appearance on `The Old Grey Whistle Test` after which I bought this album and I could only get it as a US import (No UK Issue) I never heard of them again after that, with some research it seems they were a local phenomenon in their hometown Philadelphia . Though obscure a mint US Pressing can still be picked up fairly reasonably but make sure it has the Lyric/Picture inner sleeve. While it is surprising that the band didn’t really become bigger even with a large label they did still record a great rock album, why not subscribe as I add Rarities & Obscurities regularly Side 1 1 After Last Night 2 C.I.A. 3 5 Minutes In A Hero's Life 4 Words 5 Parasite Side 2 1 Artificial Love 2 Who's Gonna Save The World 3 Teenage Jerk Off 4 Grou...

BYU's magical season starts with a matchup against #3 Pittsburgh. Also, this is ESPN's first live college football broadcast! From wiki: ESPN began airing taped college football games during the 1979 regular season, starting with a game between Colorado and Oregon. The network was limited to airing tape-delayed games because the NCAA controlled television rights through exclusive contracts. However, because bowl games operate outside the control of the NCAA, ESPN was able to air the 1982 Independence Bowl between Kansas State and Wisconsin live (through a simulcast with the Mizlou Television Network) – the first live football game televised on ESPN. After the 1984 Supreme Court decision in NCAA v. Board of Regents of the University of Oklahoma allowed individual schools to negotiate ...
Documentary on Small Pox Smallpox was an infectious disease caused by either of two virus variants, Variola major and Variola minor.[1] The disease is also known by the Latin names Variola or Variola vera, derived from varius ("spotted") or varus ("pimple"). The disease was originally known in English as the "pox" or "red plague"; the term "smallpox" was first used in Britain in the 15th century to distinguish variola from the "great pox" (syphilis). The last naturally occurring case of smallpox (Variola minor) was diagnosed on 26 October 1977. Smallpox was localized in small blood vessels of the skin and in the mouth and throat. In the skin it resulted in a characteristic maculopapular rash and, later, raised fluid-filled blisters. V. major produced a more serious disease and had an ove...
