Here's a 15 minute tutorial on how to create a geometric, abstract explosion or starburst. I used the same technique for the channels VideoGames and TheSyndicateProject. Pretty straight forward and easy to re-create. Have fun!

Art that has been created within a process of Meditation. These paintings I experience within a meditative state, I reproduce the image I receive within that state in it's pure form. I call this type of painting Experiential Abstraction.
After a very successful group exhibition and an inspiring residency working with renowned artist Darren Almond, Johnnie Lawson, presents a view of his work from that exhibition, which was in conjunction with the TRADE conference at the Dock, Carrick on Shannon, Co. Leitrim, Ireland.
The three other artist exhibiting were Padraig Cunningham, Roisin Lockrey and Margo Mcnulty. The residency was funded by Leitrim and Roscommon County Councils.
This body of work, consists of a collection of paintings (In The Between) and two Still Videos (Notions of Silence 1 & 2). Within these the artist is searching for a meditative silence and a contemplative stillness. Paired down to a visual minimum this work has been partly inspired by writings such as The Tibetan Book of the Dead, originally put into words in the 8th century by Padma Sambhava, and The Dancing Wu Li Masters by Gary Zukav.
The point of reference for these paintings is that time when day has ceased to be but has not yet become the black of night. Within the encroaching darkness there is the appearance of nothing and the supposition of everything. So it is with paint, all colours are held within black.
The video works were inspired by Yves Kleins Monotone Symphony and John Cages 4'33".
Artists that I've also been influenced by in this work are Ad Reinhardt, Mark Rothko, Jackson Pollock, Piet Mondrian, Carmen Harerra and Barnett Newman.

I really wanted to work with brown and green in this design. I was determined not to stray from those colors. I was intrigued by the last design and wanted to really dive into the unknown. Brown and green are not colors that mesh well in my eyes. That's the beauty of color... You can find beauty in any blend. I truly feel like an explorer. Any pattern I use mixes with color in different ways. The layers are always different. I could use the same effects on every design and get different results based on color. It's truly endless.
I didn't want to spend too much time on this design. I limited myself to 2 hours. Sometimes when I go past the 2 hour zone I lose focus. It's a lot easier for me to lose a great texture I created in the beginning when I start to lose focus. I didn't want to take that chance with this design because I'm already behind in designs for the week.
Editing the video was a lot smoother compared to the last two videos. I am so happy and grateful that I didn't spend hours making the video. The hardest part, well the most challenging part, should always be the blends and finding a good song. I really try to find a song that feels good. I really love synth pop. I always search for synth pop songs first on Free Music Archive before I dive into other genres. I hope you like the music featured in the video.
The reason why I called this design Old Newspaper was because the colors remained me of aged newspaper throughout the design process. There's an effect in Paintshop called Sepia. You can change the color of an image by age. The higher you go the more old the image looks. I didn't use that effect in any part of the design process but I kept thinking that I was somehow creating the effect without using it.
I am really happy with the results of this design. I always feel good working with hard colors. Primary colors used are brown and green. I made several variations of this design. One is featured in my shop that features a good amount of yellow.

Green
Green is the color between blue and yellow on the spectrum of visible light. It is evoked by light with a predominant wavelength of roughly 495–570 nm. In the subtractive color system, used in painting and color printing, it is created by a combination of yellow and blue, or yellow and cyan; in the RGB color model, used on television and computer screens, it is one of the additive primary colors, along with red and blue, which are mixed in different combinations to create all other colors.
The modern English word green comes from the Middle English and Anglo-Saxon word grene, from the same Germanic root as the words "grass" and "grow". It is the color of living grass and leaves and as a result is the color most associated with springtime, growth and nature. Abstract art
Abstract art uses a visual language of shape, form, color and line to create a composition which may exist with a degree of independence from visual references in the world.Western art had been, from the Renaissance up to the middle of the 19th century, underpinned by the logic of perspective and an attempt to reproduce an illusion of visible reality. Visit My Abstract Art Shop! http://www.society6.com/beatnik83 I really wanted to work with brown and green in this design. I was determined not to stray from those colors. I was intrigued by the last design and wanted to really dive into the unknown. Brown and green are not colors that mesh well in my eyes. That's the beauty of color... You can find beauty in any blend. I truly feel like an explorer. Any pattern I use mixes with color in different ways. The layers are always different. I could use the same effects on every design and get different results based on color. It's truly endless. I didn't want to spend too much time on this design. I limited myself to 2 hours. Sometimes when I go past the 2 hour zone I lose focus. It's a lot easier for me to lose a great texture I created in the beginning when I start to lose focus. I didn't want to take that chance with this design because I'm already behind in designs for the week. Editing the video was a lot smoother compared to the last two videos. I am so happy and grateful that I didn't spend hours making the video. The hardest part, well the most challenging part, should always be the blends and finding a good song. I really try to find a song that feels good. I really love synth pop. I always search for synth pop songs first on Free Music Archive before I dive into other genres. I hope you like the music featured in the video. The reason why I called this design Old Newspaper was because the colors remained me of aged newspaper throughout the design process. There's an effect in Paintshop called Sepia. You can change the color of an image by age. The higher you go the more old the image looks. I didn't use that effect in any part of the design process but I kept thinking that I was somehow creating the effect without using it. I am really happy with the results of this design. I always feel good working with hard colors. Primary colors used are brown and green. I made several variations of this design. One is featured in my shop that features a good amount of yellow. Art that has been created within a process of Meditation. These paintings I experience within a meditative state, I reproduce the image I receive within that state in it's pure form. I call this type of painting Experiential Abstraction.
After a very successful group exhibition and an inspiring residency working with renowned artist Darren Almond, Johnnie Lawson, presents a view of his work from that exhibition, which was in conjunction with the TRADE conference at the Dock, Carrick on Shannon, Co. Leitrim, Ireland.
The three other artist exhibiting were Padraig Cunningham, Roisin Lockrey and Margo Mcnulty. The residency was funded by Leitrim and Roscommon County Councils.
This body of work, consists of a collection of paintings (In The Between) and two Still Videos (Notions of Silence 1 & 2). Within these the artist is searching for a meditative silence and a contemplative stillness. Paired down to a visual minimum this work has been partly inspired by writings such as The Tibetan Book of the Dead, originally put into words in the 8th century by Padma Sambhava, and The Dancing Wu Li Masters by Gary Zukav.
The point of reference for these paintings is that time when day has ceased to be but has not yet become the black of night. Within the encroaching darkness there is the appearance of nothing and the supposition of everything. So it is with paint, all colours are held within black.
The video works were inspired by Yves Kleins Monotone Symphony and John Cages 4'33".
Artists that I've also been influenced by in this work are Ad Reinhardt, Mark Rothko, Jackson Pollock, Piet Mondrian, Carmen Harerra and Barnett Newman.

When substances such as bleach, salt, or mineral spirits are added to acrylic paint the effects can be quite intriguing. In a similar fashion, a surface can be given texture by layering on additives such as sheets of plastic or thin acrylic. I really wanted to work with brown and green in this design. I was determined not to stray from those colors. I was intrigued by the last design and wanted to really dive into the unknown. Brown and green are not colors that mesh well in my eyes. That's the beauty of color... You can find beauty in any blend. I truly feel like an explorer. Any pattern I use mixes with color in different ways. The layers are always different. I could use the same effects on every design and get different results based on color. It's truly endless.
I didn't want to spend too much time on this design. I limited myself to 2 hours. Sometimes when I go past the 2 hour zone I lose focus. It's a lot easier for me to lose a great texture I created in the beginning when I start to lose focus. I didn't want to take that chance with this design because I'm already behind in designs for the week.
Editing the video was a lot smoother compared to the last two videos. I am so happy and grateful that I didn't spend hours making the video. The hardest part, well the most challenging part, should always be the blends and finding a good song. I really try to find a song that feels good. I really love synth pop. I always search for synth pop songs first on Free Music Archive before I dive into other genres. I hope you like the music featured in the video.
The reason why I called this design Old Newspaper was because the colors remained me of aged newspaper throughout the design process. There's an effect in Paintshop called Sepia. You can change the color of an image by age. The higher you go the more old the image looks. I didn't use that effect in any part of the design process but I kept thinking that I was somehow creating the effect without using it.
I am really happy with the results of this design. I always feel good working with hard colors. Primary colors used are brown and green. I made several variations of this design. One is featured in my shop that features a good amount of yellow.

The Role of the Quantity Surveyor in the Green Building Process
ABSTRACT
Purpose
The purpose of the research for this paper was to determine the knowledge of quantity surveyors with regards to green building, and ultimately potential ways in which the quantity surveyor’s level of involvement on green building projects could be improved in future.
Design
The literature study was supplemented by means of extended pilot study interviews with selected architects with experience regarding green building developments. The resulting information was used to develop a questionnaire which was distributed to registered quantity surveyors throughout South Africa.
Findings
Results showed that quantity surveyors lacked knowledge regarding features required for the Green Star (SA) certification of a building. Quantity surveyors also indicated that they are dissatisfied with their knowledge of green buildings, and that they felt that there were not enough opportunities available to increase their knowledge in this area.
Research limitations/implications
Research was delimited to registered quantity surveyors that are members of the Association of South African Quantity Surveyors (ASAQS).
Practical implications
The study informs quantity surveyors of the knowledge/competencies that need to be improved, and ways to potentially enhance the level of involvement they may have on green building projects in future. The resultant higher level of involvement of the quantity surveyor will lead to improved budgeting and ultimately, more green projects being undertaken in South Africa.
Originality/value
The paper provides insight into the knowledge base of quantity surveyors, as well as their views and perceptions of green building processes in general.

Abstract.
Greening has been promoted to improve the living conditions in urban environments. Quantification of greenery is an important issue to identify the criteria for stakeholders in the process of greening. This research focuses on the quantification of visible greenery ratio which is defined as the amount of greenery in the field of vision. Some measurement methods of visible greenery ratio have been already proposed. However, the quantification process is usually time consuming and prone to human errors due to manual operations by using an image processing software. Therefore, in this research, the authors developed an automated measurement system based on image processing technology for the efficient visible greenery ratio measurement. In the verification experiment, the proposed method achieved similar results for extracted pixels of green areas as the traditional manual method, with decreased calculation time. Furthermore, in addition to measuring the current ratio of greenery, this system can visualize possible future changes in visible greenery by adding planting (landscape) design models in an Augmented Reality (AR) environment. Using the proposed method, an ideal greening environment can be designed and evaluated by end-users, more intuitively. The developed design system is expected to eventually result in increasing the amount of greenery in the urban environment.

In this talk we'll build up a set of small classes starting from nothing using a set of directed refactorings applied as we build, all while keeping our tests green. We'll identify abstractions yearning to be free of their big class cages. In the process we'll also see how basic patterns such as composition, delegation and dependency inversion emerge from using small objects.
Mark Menard is president of Enable Labs, a consulting firm, in Troy, NY specializing in large scale web and mobile app dev. Mark talks about Ruby and coding at conferences and user groups. Mark also gets his hands dirty doing construction work from time-to-time, and is a happy husband and father.

Our quest to design chemical processes and products aimed at the reduction or elimination of hazardous substance (chemical) use has bourn considerable fruit in the field of green chemistry/engineering. Complementary sets of green chemistry and green engineering principles have provided the directions involved in this paradigm shift. The principles used to design green processes can be employed in the assessment of the new technology involved. Green process innovation exemplifies the strength and direction of new process development. We have investigated a series of metrics designed to permit an assessment green chemistry components contributing to new chemical process development and innovation at several stages of development. As we assess a given process development or discovery, these metrics are used to evaluate the contribution of each feature. This analysis begins to uncover the green chemistry/engineering contributors in each process assessment and offer an understanding of which features contribute to the green chemistry/engineering innovation of the process. We also recognize that features contributing to innovation will vary across the landscape of discovery to established chemical processes. The importance of sustainability in the design of new molecules at various levels of new chemical development now becomes relevant to discovery, process economics and public acceptability.
Biography:
John Glaser holds a PhD in organic chemistry from the University of Georgia and has conducted research at the US Environmental Protection Agency for 32 years. He holds position as editor and advisory board member on several scientific journals. He has a collection of book and journal articles ranging from oil spill remediation development to environmental analytical criteria and beyond to applications of remote sensing to environmental issues.
