Macquarie Radio Network’s 2GB and 3AW take the crown again in Sydney and Melbourne

Macquarie Radio Network’s (MRN) powerhouse News Talk stations 2GB in Sydney and 3AW in Melbourne have topped the radio ratings again as Number One stations in both markets, according to today’s Gfk Survey 3 results.

MRN’s network of News, Talk, Music and Sport stations have a national reach of more than 2.3 million Australians All People 10+ and a dominant share of more than 1.9 million of the influential All People 40+ age group. The time that MRN’s audience spends listening to its stations is double that of the nearest commercial competitor.

Macquarie is the home of football this season, with the top rating Continuous Call Team of Ray Hadley, Darryl “Big Marn” Brohman, David Morrow, Brett Finch, Mark “Piggy” Riddell and Mark Levy bringing all the NRL action to 2GB Sydney and 4BC Brisbane listeners, while 3AW in Melbourne and 6PR in Perth have the nation’s best AFL commentary teams including Tim Lane, Tony Leonard, Cameron Ling, Matthew Richardson, Karl Langdon, Peter Bell and Drew Morphett in what is already a sizzling season of footy.

2GB has once again continued its unbroken decade-long reign as Sydney’s most listened to station, with an audience share of 11.9%. As Melbourne’s most listened to station for 9 years, 3AW continues to dominate with a 13.7% share in the latest survey.

2GB and 3AW enjoyed strong performances in the competitive Breakfast and Morning slots. The Alan Jones Breakfast Show commands a 14% share, while 3AW Breakfast team Ross & John’s share was 20.1%, their 107thsurvey win in Melbourne.

2GB’s Ray Hadley still holds the Number One position in Mornings in Sydney, with an unequivocal win. Hadley’s audience is at 14.4%.

Audiences have embraced the new presenter lineup at Brisbane News Talk station 4BC, with share growth of 0.4% to 5.0%. Breakfast’s Alan Jones and Mornings’ Ray Hadley have seen their listener base grow to 6.4% and 5.8% respectively, while Clare Blake, Ben Davis and Ross Greenwood also contributed to gains across the station.

In Perth, News Talk station 6PR’s Breakfast show with Steve Mills and Basil Zempilas delivered an 11.3% share and still leads time spent listening at more than 12 hours per week.

MRN’s music stations of 2CH in Sydney, Magic 1278 in Melbourne and Magic 882 in Brisbane and held their key 40+ demographic audiences.
