Mahindra’s big XUV500 SUV has come in for a major refresh, following its 2011 overseas debut and its mid-2012 Australian launch.
Debuting in India this week, the revised XUV500 gains a number of styling tweaks, an updated interior, and a number of new comfort features and driving aids.
Headlining the styling changes are a dark new grille design with chrome accents, new headlight internals with ribbon-like LED daytime lamps, and a revised bumper design with new silver-framed fog lights.
There’s also a streamlined new bonnet which now also benefits from pneumatic supports.
Other exterior updates include new 17-inch alloy wheels and chrome highlights to the glasshouse.
The 2015 model’s rear is largely unchanged, limited to the addition of a broad new chrome-trimmed hand grab.
Inside, Mahindra has given the XUV500 a more conventional colourway, with a black and tan colourway replacing the burgundy, sand and beige combinations offered with the outgoing model.
Depending on the model, the XUV500’s features include leather seats with six-way powered adjustment for the driver, a 7.0 inch touch display, reversing camera, powered sunroof, engine stop-button start, new blue interior lighting and aluminium pedals.
There’s also active turning projector headlights and a brake energy recuperation system that feeds energy to the vehicle’s battery.
Mahindra also promises a revised suspension package for improved ride quality.
Power is again provided by the same 2.2 litre four-cylinder diesel that drives the current model, offering 103kW and 330Nm.
Likewise, the only transmission on offer is once again a six-speed manual, although a six-speed auto is due in 2016.
The manual transmission sends power to either a front- or all-wheel-drive system, depending on the model.
Australia
An Australian debut for the updated XUV500 will occur in the current 'W8' trim grade later this year, while the up-spec 'W10' model is under consideration for a local launch.
