It's a strange looking, bubble-roofed thing, but Mahindra says its Reva Halo concept is a glimpse at the Indian automaker's future.

Intended to be the flagship of Mahindra's all-electric Reva sub-brand, the Halo mates sporty styling (courtesy of Bertone and Pininfarina) with a modest electric powertrain.

And "modest" is the key word here. Though the two-door coupe body promises performance, the 104kW electric motor delivers a claimed 0-100km/h time of roughly nine seconds.

The Halo clearly won't be trespassing on the Tesla Roadster's turf, then.

But what it will do is deliver a maximum range of 200km on a single charge - double that of Mahindra Reva's sole production offering, the awkward-looking e20.

Though it's only a concept today, Mahindra says it will fast-track the Reva Halo's development to prepare it for a production debut sometime next year.
