LDV has expanded its range of commercial vans in Australia, with the addition of the G10 to its local line-up this week.

Joining the V80 short- and long-wheelbase vans that were relaunched late last year, the G10 is described by LDV as “the game changer - nothing in its class comes remotely close to matching the LDV G10 van for value and performance”.

And the Chinese carmaker may be onto something.

Competitors around the same price point include the Citroen Berlingo, Fiat’s Doblo, the Renault Kangoo and Volkswagen’s Caddy - all offering four-cylinder engines in both petrol and diesel.

But none of the powerplants among that list can match the G10’s 2.0 litre twin-cam turbocharged petrol engine, which produces a comparatively healthy 165kW and 330Nm, matched with a ZF six-speed automatic.

The G10 is rear-wheel-drive with a coil-sprung rear end and wears 16-inch alloy wheels. Fuel consumption is rated at 11.7 l/100km, and the fuel tank holds 75 litres.

All-important cargo space measures 5200 litres, while the payload is rated at 1093kg. Access to the cargo area is via dual sliding side doors and a lift-up rear tailgate.

Inside, the G10 features standard air conditioning, cruise control, power windows and an LCD touchscreen audio system with Bluetooth.

Safety features include electronic stability control, anti-lock brakes (ABS), driver and passenger airbags, a reversing camera with sensors and tyre-pressure monitoring.

“We see the G10 van as an absolute game changer - the vehicle that will transform LDV from a niche brand to a serious volume contender,” LDV Australia General Manager, Dinesh Chinnappa, said.

“The official figures show that almost 20,000 vans are sold each year in Australia. It’s a big segment that’s ripe for increased competition."

"Some of our competitors sell several hundred vans similar to the G10 every month - vans that are thousands, and in some cases tens-of-thousands of dollars more expensive.”

Mr Chinnappa said LDV was looking to fleet purchasers with the G10, and was willing to offer sharper pricing for bulk fleet purchases.

The 2015 LDV G10 is priced from $29,990 drive-away for ABN holders, and is backed by a three-year, 100,000km warranty with 24-hour roadside assistance.
