Petaling Jaya is another major development zone of Selangor and was awarded city status in 2006, making Selangor the only other state in Malaysia with more than one city; the other is Sarawak. Selangor also has the largest state population in Malaysia.

Being one of the most developed states with good infrastructure, the Selangor property market is huge and promises high return on investments. Major commercial developments include office towers, shopping malls, shop-office space and industrial lots. A wide spectrum of residential properties makes up the landscape of this state. Residents of Selangor typically experience beautiful weather throughout the year with sunny days and cool evenings. Humidity levels remain high for most months and are generally at 80 percent or higher. Temperatures can range from 23 to 33˚C. The rainy season starts from December to February.

Malays make up more than 50 percent of the population in Selangor. The rest of the residents consist of Chinese, Indian and other ethnic groups. The cultural influence of Malays in Selangor is mainly from Bugis, Johor, Minangkabau, Mandailing and Javanese ancestries.
