Temperatures can range from 27 to 34°C in the low-land areas but it is much cooler in the hills. The northeast monsoon season starts from November and will last until February. The population of Sarawak consists of many ethnic groups. The major groups are Iban, Chinese, Malay, Bidayuh, Melanau and Orang Ulu. There are more than 40 sub-ethnic groups, each with their own dialects and traditions. Popular traditional festivals celebrated in Sarawak include gawai dayak, gawai kenyalang, kaul festival and many more. This state is also famous for its longhouses. Sape, ngajat, datun julud and bamboo dance are some of the traditional dance and music of Sarawak. Popular local food includes Sarawak laksa, kolo mee, ayam pansuh and midin belacan.
