A fiery crash between a truck and a mobile crane has closed the north-bound lanes of the M1 Pacific Motorway north of Sydney, causing a 12-kilometre traffic jam at the start of the morning peak.
The B-double truck was engulfed in flames following the collision with the crane near the Pacific Highway overpass at Brooklyn, just south of the Hawkesbury River Bridge, about 4am on Tuesday.

Just before 6am, that queue had grown to 12 kilometres and was not expected to ease throughout the morning peak, the Transport Management Centre said.
A NSW Police spokeswoman said both vehicles were heading north when they crashed. The vehicles were extensively damaged, and were blocking all north-bound lanes between the cliff face and the median strip.

The cause of the crash was not yet known, but a witness claimed one of the vehicles had jackknifed.
The police spokeswoman said one of the drivers was taken to hospital with minor injuries, while the second driver escaped injury.
The TMC said the north-bound lanes of the motorway were expected to remain closed for "some time".
North-bound motorists are advised to delay their travel or, if necessary, use the Pacific Highway as an alternative route and allow plenty of additional travel time.
