A woman has died after becoming trapped under a car that rolled backwards onto her with two young children inside.
It is understood the 32-year-old woman was reversing out of the driveway of a Barnell Street home in Craigieburn about 2.30pm on Monday when she hit a water meter.
When the woman got out of the car to investigate, the vehicle rolled backwards onto her.
She died at the scene.
Two children, aged seven and four, were in the car at the time.
"The seven-year-old boy got out of the car and ran inside and rang his dad," police spokesman Leading Senior Constable Paul Turner said.
The children were not injured.
Police will prepare a report for the coroner.
