Ten years ago, veteran scientist David Perkins visited the Maker’s Mark facility in Kentucky during vacation. While touring the grounds he had an “a-ha moment”: the equipment at the distillery was very similar to what he worked with in his lab.
“I told my wife, ‘I think we should make whiskey,’” says Perkins. The idea for High West Distillery was born, but getting the business off the ground in conservative Park City, Utah, turned out to be quite the adventure. Listen to Perkins’ Defining Moment.
