Changi is a district located at the eastern end of Singapore. Sharing borders with Pasir Ris and Tampines to the west and Changi Bay to the east, Changi, excluding the two water catchments and islands of Singapore, is the largest district in the country by area.
Today, Changi is an aviation hub. Being home to both Changi Airport and Changi Air Base.
Also located within Changi is Singapore's largest prison, Changi Prison. It became infamous as a Japanese prisoner of war camp during the occupation of Singapore in World War II. Changi Prison continues to be Singapore's oldest operating internment facility, in the form of the new Changi Prison Complex.
The early Malay place name of Changi was Tanjong Rusa, which is found in the 1604 E.G. de Eredia map of Singapore.
The native place name Changi is found very early in Singapore's history. In the 1828 map by Franklin and Jackson, the extreme southeastern tip of the island is referred to as Tanjong Changi. The local name Changi must have been a significant point for the Malays, especially in the days of the sixteenth century Johor kingdom located on the Johor River. Vessels using the Johor Straits would have to pass by Changi.
Singapore Changi Airport (IATA: SIN, ICAO: WSSS), or simply Changi Airport, is the primary civilian airport for Singapore, and one of the largest transportation hubs in Southeast Asia. It is currently the World's Best Airport (Skytrax 2015), and is one of the world's busiest airports by international passenger traffic and cargo traffic. The airport is located in Changi, at the eastern end of Singapore, approximately 17.2 kilometres (10.7 mi) northeast from Marina Bay (downtown Singapore), on a 13-square-kilometre (5.0 sq mi) site. It is operated by Changi Airport Group and it is the home base of Singapore Airlines, Singapore Airlines Cargo, SilkAir, Scoot, Tigerair, Jetstar Asia Airways, Valuair and BOC Aviation, as well as a focus city of AirAsia.
Changi Airport serves more than 100 airlines flying to some 320 cities in about 80 countries and territories worldwide. Each week, about 6,800 flights land or depart from Changi, or about one every 90 seconds, with 55.4 million passengers passing through the airport in 2015.
Singapore Airlines Limited (SIA; SGX: C6L) is the flag carrier of Singapore with its hub at Changi Airport.
The Singapore Airlines group includes many airline-related subsidiaries: SIA Engineering Company handles maintenance, repair and overhaul (MRO) business across nine countries, with a portfolio of 27 joint ventures, including with Boeing and Rolls-Royce. Singapore Airlines Cargo operate SIA's freighter fleet and manages the cargo-hold capacity in SIA's passenger aircraft. It has three airlines subsidiaries: SilkAir operates regional flights to secondary cities, while Scoot and Tigerair operate in the low-cost carrier sector.
Singapore Airlines was the launch customer for the Airbus A380, the world's largest passenger aircraft. It ranks amongst the top 15 carriers worldwide in terms of revenue passenger kilometres, and 10th in the world for international passengers carried. On 15 December 2010, Singapore Airlines was named by the International Air Transport Association as the second largest airline in the world by market capitalisation, worth of 14 billion US dollars. Singapore Airlines utilises the Singapore Girl as its central figure in its corporate branding. The airline is also regarded as a Singaporean national symbol and icon.
Changi East (Chinese: 樟宜东) is the name of an urban planning area in the East Region of Singapore. The area encompasses 1.14 square kilometres, and is entirely reclaimed land. Changi East is the site of the Changi Airbase (East), Changi Exhibition Centre and the new F1 circuit area.
An airport is an aerodrome with facilities for flights to take off and land. Airports often have facilities to store and maintain aircraft, and a control tower. An airport consists of a landing area, which comprises an aerially accessible open space including at least one operationally active surface such as a runway for a plane to take off or a helipad, and often includes adjacent utility buildings such as control towers, hangars and terminals. Larger airports may have fixed base operator services, airport aprons, air traffic control centres, passenger facilities such as restaurants and lounges, and emergency services.
An airport with a helipad for rotorcraft but no runway is called a heliport. An airport for use by seaplanes and amphibious aircraft is called a seaplane base. Such a base typically includes a stretch of open water for takeoffs and landings, and seaplane docks for tying-up.
An international airport has additional facilities for customs and immigration.
In warfare, airports can become the focus of intense fighting, for example the Battle of Tripoli Airport or the Battle for Donetsk Airport, both taking place in 2014. An airport primarily for military use is called an airbase or air station.

A Singapore Airlines jet made an emergency landing at Singapore Changi Airport on the morning of 27 June 2016 and her right wing and jet was on fire. Plenty of black smoke and looked very scary. Thankfully the Changi Airport Fire service swung into immediate action and put out the fire within a very short time. No injuries, but it certainly looked like a very close call. More information from various press sources. This Singapore Airlines Boeing 777-300ER jet (serial number 9V-SWB, a 9 year old plane) was bound for Milan and turned back to Singapore after about 2 hours, due to a fuel leak. The flight number was SQ 368. The plane caught fire after the aircraft touched down at around 6:50am. There were reportedly 19 crew and 222 passengers on board. After the fire was put out, the ...

Finally, after two years leaving Asia, I was back. My first stop was Singapore. Despite being so close to Malaysia, the last time I was in Singapore was when I was a child. The impression of Singapore was just amazing. From the moment I arrived at Changi Airport (World's Best Airport 2013) to the moments I spent in the city, Singapore lived up to it's name and the experience was simply Your (My) Singapore. http://www.yoursingapore.com/ More in my blog: http://www.gracemoments.com/24-hours-in-singapore/ Watch the other episodes in the links below: Singapore: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fOA9F-Xiotk Seoul: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cqmeN58sLM4 Melaka (Malacca): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wmXWdI2p200 Kuala Lumpur: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=luwSC8fwJdw --- Places featured...
https://www.expedia.com/Singapore.d180027.Destination-Travel-Guides Small and heavily populated, Singapore is an easy place to explore; nothing in the city is more than an hour from the business district. Thanks to modern construction and outstanding architecture, Singapore is rapidly becoming a powerhouse trade city, but it maintains ties to its Asian roots through traditional temples and many cultural hotspots, like Little India and Kampong Glam. Your Singapore tour must include the Botanical Gardens and Orchid Gardens, both beautiful and notable places to visit. If you’re a fan of exotic animals, stop by the Singapore Zoo and check in with its 300-plus species that take up residence there. You can also take a “bumboat” from Changi Beach to Pulau Ubin, set away from the bustling city,...

Either they don't know, don't show
Or don't care about what's going on in the hood
Uh, uh, yeah, uh, yeah, yeah, this your boy
Chingaling man need to talk to the world real quick
Talk to 'em, man, you know we got a lot of problems
Going on in the inner city, in the ghetto, in the hood
They ain't hearin' you, ain't nobody touchin' on, democrats
Republicans, all those folks, you know they don't care
What's going on in the ghetto anyway
Everyday I wake up with a regular mentality
But I'm a target on the street and that's just reality
Cats in the ghetto ain't never had a high salary
Except makin' deals and selling blow in the alley
See, the system was made for us to fail, look at the jails
Overpopulated with Mexicans and young black males
I ain't tellin' the tale so we choose heaven or hell
Don't care about letters from school, we'd rather get street mail
I been a witness to some murders snitchin'I do without it
But then I wonder why the damn police don't do nothing about it
Go to the unemployment office, hell, yeah, it's crowded
Our hoods takin' wrong turns, now it's time to reroute it
I know a lil' dude, 13, carry a burner dropped out of school
Teacher said he wasn't a fast learner
Sometimes I wonder, in 20 years I wonder where we gon' be
When I say we, I mean my black community, ya digg
They don't know how it feels to hurt so long
'Cause they never walked in these shoes
And they never had to cry these blues
How many men turn their back on us so long
Always say what they gon' do
But they never seem to come through
Pardon my French but I don't think we ready for a lady president
It's evident that it's a mans world so that's irrelevant
The system think we all niggas and we not intelligent
But Martin Luther and Malcolm taught me before I'm heaven sent
The girls havin' kids and they still some kids
Poppin' them out one after another like that's what it is
It's innocent cats doin' bizz, they just tryin' to life
And the police don't even know if the crime they did
It's got my brain in a twist, so I'm twistin' a leaf
On my balcony smokin' and drinkin' trying to see some relief
If I can change our neighborhoods I would, put that on me
This world messed up and that Stevie Wonder can see
So to my dogs locked down set ya mind free
'Cause you and I don't even believe you can get your degree
Sometimes I wonder in 20 years where we gon' be
And when I say we I mean my black community, let's go
They don't know how it feels to hurt so long
'Cause they never walked in these shoes
And they never had to cry these blues
How many men turn their back on us so long
Always say what they gon' do
But they never seem to come through
I twist the cap off the bottle, take a sip and see tomorrow
Like pac, wash away the sorrow while police hit the block
I be up all night, askin' God for the truth
He told me thinking translated in my own words in the booth
Try to reach the youth 'cause that's what matters today
I'm ain't too religious but I get on my knees and pray
Sometimes I wonder in 20 years where we gon' be
I ain't gotta wonder no more, my people rollin' with me, yeah
They don't know how it feels to hurt so long
'Cause they never walked in these shoes
And they never had to cry these blues
How many men turn their back on us so long
Always say what they gon' do
But they never seem to come through
Yeah, they'll never come through, wo, oh, oh
