A man has died at the Rainbow Serpent Music and Arts Festival overnight.

The man died about 10.15pm on site at the electronic dance music festival held on farmland near Beaufort in Victoria after being tended to by paramedics and police.

An ambulance was called at 9pm after the man went into cardiac arrest.

The death is not being treated as suspicious and police will prepare a report for the coroner.

Rainbow Serpent organiser Tim Harvey said in a statement on Sunday morning : "Rainbow Serpent considers the safety of patrons a priority and we will continue to co-operate with authorities to determine exactly what happened in this situation."

The cause of the death is yet to be confirmed.

It is the second time someone has died at the festival. In 2012, Melbourne man Daniel Buccianti, 34, died shortly after calling his mother to say he had "taken some very bad acid".
