A 70-year-old man spent Saturday night in hospital with a shattered jawbone after being assaulted by three young men outside a Thornlie shopping centre.
David Franklin Goodhall had gone to the TAB near the corner of Spencer Road and Connemara Drive, Thornlie, with his son, 34, but found it shut.
They were driving away through the car park when three men, described as fair-skinned and in their late teens to 20s, stepped in front of their car, a white Holden Commodore.
"They were leaning on the side of the car and that is what really annoyed me," Mr Goodhall said.
He got out of his car and the men attacked him, fracturing his jaw and causing extensive cuts and bruising before fleeing.
They did not attack his son.
"I'd like to see them try," Mr Goodhall said, adding "my wife wasn't very happy."
Mr Goodhall will need to see a specialist to have his jaw repaired and is in significant pain.
Despite this he insisted on getting to the press conference on Sunday under his own steam.
"If you know who has done it do something about turning them in," he said.
"I will be more wary about leaving the house now."
No CCTV footage of the offenders is available.
Armadale Detectives need to speak to anyone who saw the incident or the three men in the area at the time.
They were described as fair skinned and aged in their late teens to twenties.
