The chef and TV host has a soft spot for the bedroom, but a certain bedside table – well, not so much.

What is your strongest memory of your childhood home?

My strongest memory is myself, my sister, Gaelle, and mum Evelyne living in a small duplex house in France. We just had a very good and happy time living together.

What do you remember about buying your first home?

Stress! It was an expensive Australian home and a hard choice to make, but it was happiness in the end.

Have you ever house-shared (when you were younger or a student) and if so, can you describe the experience?

I house-shared in London when I was 18 to 26 years old. It was always fun but complicated at the same time as I could never find my shampoo in the bathroom! I was sharing with a bunch of chefs working in the same restaurant I was.

Do you have any tips for organising your home?

Every room should be used for what they are built for and clean as you go. For example, the kitchen shouldn’t be used as a study area. The kitchen is my domain and that’s the most organised part of the house.

Do you have a favourite room?

Yes, it’s my bedroom. It’s when I can finally go to bed and sleep nicely, then the alarm clock is my daughter Charlee! Clarissa and I pick her up from her bed about 6.30 or 7am and then spend the next half an hour in bed together.

What’s the worst piece of furniture or household item you have ever bought?

A bedside table from Ikea. It never holds, even for the weight of a book. I put it together which I don’t mind doing as I love a bit of DIY but it was fake wood with pieces glued together.

If you could live in a dream house, anywhere in the world, where would it be?

It would definitely be in Australia. Maybe somewhere in Sydney’s east on a cliff by the sea overlooking the beautiful water.

Manu Feildel is a judge on Seven’s My Kitchen Rules. The eighth series of the show premieres on Monday at 7.30pm on Seven.
