Travel tips: What to do with a six hour transit in Hong Kong?

WE ARRIVE IN HONG KONG AT 5.15 AM WITH AN ONWARD CONNECTION AT  NOON. WHAT CAN WE DO TO FILL IN THE TIME? P. ZOBORY, BALMAIN

The Airport Express train takes less than 30 minutes to get to Central so you could have close to four hours to spend in the city. Since you'll reach the city early, and a lot of the attractions and shops won't be open, you could follow the signs to the Star Ferry terminal and take a ride across the harbour. If you're feeling flush when you get to the Kowloon side pop into The Peninsula Hotel for breakfast, it's the aristocrat of the city's five-star elite, full of history and character. If not there are heaps of alternatives, you never go hungry in Hong Kong. Just to the west along  Salisbury Road is the vast Harbour City shopping complex, full of swanky designer names, but most of the shops don't open before 10am.

Take the Star Ferry back to Hong Kong and take a look at the Maritime Museum, since sea trade was pivotal to the development of Hong Kong, and remains so. Assuming you're already checked in for your next flight you should start heading back to Central Station by 10 to get the Airport Express, otherwise leave earlier.
