Police are continuing to investigate a one-punch attack on the Gold Coast on Saturday afternoon, as more details emerge describing the moments before the punches were thrown.

A 52-year-old Nerang man was knocked out and his 20-year-old daughter also assaulted by another driver, who police believe didn't know the pair.

A Queensland Police spokesman said the victims' car had pulled over and the driver behind began using his horn in frustration.

After a brief battle of horns the victim waved the driver behind to go around, which soon escalated to the attacker getting out of his car and confronting the victim and his daughter, before punches were thrown.

A witness captured the confrontation on camera which showed the attacker landing several punches on the young woman as well as the blow which knocked the man out.

Emergency services were called to the assault on a Trickett Street intersection in Surfers Paradise about 1.20pm where they found the Nerang man unconscious.

Paramedics treated the victim, who regained consciousness before being taken to Gold Coast University Hospital in a stable condition.

Police said the male attacker remained on the run and was last seen fleeing the scene in a white Mitsubishi Lancer.
